All things that hurt (emotional and physical)
Kevin.
I absolutely agree the 'patient' must want to do something about their condition. Afterall it's their fight.!
Leading by example works.
I guess we all see ourselves as what we're doing as right. Otherwise why would we pursue this way of management?

Absolutely.. Unfortunately though, with our illness denial or indeed ignorance will take us to a place we probably would never have reached if only !............

If you are running a high blood sugar you feel terribly thirsty, I can remember just before diagnosis I was so thirsty I felt like nicking pop off the shop shelves to quench my thirst, but to drink sugary drinks other than to remedy a Hypo is share madness !

Whilst i fully agree to your comment on fizzy pops, the craving symptoms you describe are only one of many such indicators for diabetes. I am a T2D myself, and I NEVER had this symptom, even when running bgls in the 30's (last year). Nor did I pee a lot. I was having no indications at all when I had a chance bgl test at a diabetes roadshow simply because my mother had the disease, so I wanted to check in case i was genetic. My first bgl was over 20 mmol/l, and i was referred to GP. The only symptom I had was a bit of weight loss, but I was still at a reasonable BMI. Since DX I do not get the sweets cravings, or the sugary drinks binges, or the nightime dashes to the loo. The only time I have had these is when I had a UTI bought on by Forxiga (which is apparently par for the course on both counts)

So I was ignorant of my own diabetes and felt right as rain when DX'ed. 10 years later, I have finally taken steps to take control of my condition, and am happy to report some success in my own personal battle, but I too was in denial for a long while.

... but this was at the disapproval of my db nurse who has put that my diabetes is uncontrolled and I am refusing to confirm to the advice she gave me ... on the other hand my heart failure nurse is very happy with my dramatic health improvements !!!
It takes a lot go against the medical world and try a way of eating that we have been brainwashed by the gov to believe is not healthy for us.

I love Dr jody stanislaw's statement in regards to this.......
"The pancreas is non compliant.. Not the patient. When Dr's say a patient is non compliant it says that the physician doesnt know what it is really like to live with diabetes.
There is not one treatment or bit of advice that truly fixes this disease.
Most Dr's need to listen more to their patients, have more compassion and understanding, work within what is realistic and learn how to be inspiring "

The same I believe can be said for nurses, dieticians, Specialists and any other Professional a diabetic comes in contact with.

I hate to think what my BGs were running at when I felt like nicking the pop off the shelves, At the time I was visiting the Doc's every other day as I felt so unwell and had all the symptoms of diabetes but was only diagnosed when I went into a coma and taken by blue light ambulance to hospital, that was 41 yrs ago when I was 16, I was never told what my BG reading was at the time, Would anybody know what it would have to be to send me into a coma?
