I got a copy of "the GI Diet at the charity shop yesterday and found watermelon in the Red foods. oods to avoid. Since it's 93% water, that doesn't make sense. 100g of watermelon contains only about 7g of sugar in total.

It actually contains 9.8gms of sugar per average serving and no fibre so the sugar goes straight into your blood stream as there is no digestion needed. That is why it will spike as do all other foods rated High G.I.
G.I. values are based on the time it takes to digest the food.

Hana,
I know you have expressed an interest in understanding the G.I. diet. Why don't you see if your local library could obtain a copy of Rick Gallop, the G.I. Diet. I think Tubs borrowed one before he bought his copy.
