The wizard

Hello,

Just wanted to share a piece of information that came out of my check up this week.

My doctor had come back from a conference in Holland( who have some of the best control in the world) and found that best ratio is normally a 60% bolus 40% basal split instead of the common 50/50 split.

He said that one of the reasons for the increased bolus amount of say 10% was due to doing the following. For example, say you have breakfast, test bg, input the carbs on the wizard, take the recommended dosage. Then, couple of hrs later, you check your level and you look at it and think, that's ok, there will still be active insulin so looks on target for before lunch. But, what you should do is enter the BG in the meter, enter no carbs and see if it gives you correction dose, as the correction dose could be as small as .1 or .2 and it is these small amounts that makes up the increased 60 bolus% 40 basal% split and can make all the difference in achieving a better HB1c.

Anyways, thought I would share that and hope you understand my example, if you have been to a dafne & pump clinic.

I think this is better reckoning.. However, it really depends upon a lot of factors....

1) how often you eat.. (Mines once a day);

2) if you eat snacks (I don't);

My basal to bolus runs at 5/95 to 30/70 and I have consistent levels between 5 and 7 and run generally ith 0.8 standard deviation on most days.

The more carbs that the NHS tell people to eat (whether type 1 or type 2) the more corrections pumpers may have to give.

Ideally, pumpers shouldn't be reliant upon having to take corrections...

My only problem is my sets malfunctioning before the 2 days are up but even then I can recognise this and deal with it.
