Type of diabetes
Type 1
Treatment type
Insulin
Wanted to ask does anyone believe diabetes can be given to another person by form of another medication

There is steroid induced type 2 diabetes, that is well recognised and accepted.

Why do you ask @Jazzman75 ? What was your medication history prior to diagnosis with type 2?

Wasn't on any meds i got a flu jab and then a few weeks later i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes it seems mad but its true

Well a flu jab doesn't cause type 2 diabetes.

How were you diagnose? What prompted them to test your blood sugar? What was your hba1c on diagnosis?

Not sure i was really thirsty and kept going toilet a lot then got checked by the doctor and I had diabetes i don't remember nothing about hba1c

In your other thread you said you were diagnosed with type 2 when you were 6. It's very unusual for a child to be diagnosed with type2 diabetes unless they are morbidly obese. So, excuse me for asking, but were you a very fat child?

It's also not terribly common for type 2 diabetics to commence their treatment with insulin. They usually try diet and oral meds first. Were you put on insulin at diagnosis, or have you only recently started using insulin (your other threads do suggest you might not be that familiar with insulin or how to use it)?

That really does sound more like type 1 then. Who has told you you are type 2? On what basis?

The doctor told me i am type 2 i take insulin not tablets i have been in & out of hospital for dka many of times

It's also very unusual for a type 2 diabetic to get DKA.

What sort of doctor told you you were type 2, a GP or an endocrinologist? On what basis did they determine the type of diabetes? Have you had a c peptide test and antibody testing?

Type 2 diabetes is most commonly diagnosed in people over 40. It's so unusual for a child to be diagnosed with type 2 that's it's literally newsworthy when children are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and those children are very overweight.

So it seems incredibly off piste for a 6 year old with acute onset insulin dependent diabetes to be diagnosed with type 2 that I would expect there to be an explanation for how such an unusual diagnosis was determined.

The flu jab doesn't cause type 1 either. Type 1 is caused by an autoimmune attack. And usually by diagnosis something like 80% of the insulin producing beta cells will have been killed off by the immune system, so the attack would have been going on a lot longer than a few weeks pre diagnosis.

You can change the type that shows up under you avatar to correct this, or ask a moderator to do it for you.

It is type 1 my bad sorry for the confusion
thank you for updating us on your type of diabetes -- confirming we need to have you as type 1

Hi @Jazzman75 - You can change your diabetes type, by going to your account, by clicking on your user name at the top, right hand of your screen. If you then scroll down a bit there's a heading "Type of Diabetes" on the left hand side, where there's a drop down menu.

If you aren't able to do that, I can change it for you, if you would please confirm you are T1, using insulin therapy.
