There is a cure.. how come nobody does this?

I'm trying all sorts in an attempt to fix myself, currently on day 3 of fasting completely with only water and coffee....

Im not sure if I'm harming myself or helping, I can but try.
Is this your first extended fast? I would ease yourself into 7 days rather than going for 7 first off..

Please excuse my ignorance if I sound silly for asking, but why would you ever want to the body to go below 4mmol/l? From my understanding the body regulates between 4mmol and 6mmol, and tries to maintain a mean blood glucose of 5.5mmol/l.

Hi,

I think there are various different levels at which different bodies self-regulate.
If we (T2s) are aiming to get our blood glucose and HbA1cs down to those of non-diabetic levels, then an average blood glucose of 5.5 is actually well above optimal.

Dr Bernstein claims (with a fair amount of supporting evidence, including his own personal experience of reversing his diabetic complications and being virtually complication-free in in 80s) that to reverse complications we should aim for an HbA1c of 4.6 (that is in the 20s in UK A1c units), which is an average blood glucose level of 4.7mmol/l

(way out of my reach, but it makes for a brilliant target )

Edited to add the text in blue.

Yes, day 4 and I'm struggling. Will go until this evening and see how I feel but I'm ready to eat I think.

If you feel you are ready to eat then eat..there's no point in being a macho man when fasting..
Its far better to ease yourself into longer fasts although if you don't want to loose weight then I'm not sure extended fasts are the best thing for you. Also when you break the fast eat something small to start with . The first time I broke an extended fast with a keto sunday roast I felt awful for the rest of the day,

Its good to know that you know more than my doctor and my consultant.

My routine is the treadmill, exercise bike, and various step machines, followed by resistance machines.
The maybe finish with a swim.

Yes, the US have a lower threshold for pre-D but I am happy with it. I think the 5.5-6.1 range just signals that things are heading upwards. All of these thresholds are merely arbitrary numbers, decided by committee, and occasionally, the committee decides to move the number, usually based on budget or resources.

Age affects a lot of things, plus there is age related diabetes, so keeping an eye on rising blood glucose becomes even more relevant.

But you are right that this isn't really part of this thread. The debate on 'normo-glycaemia' has a good long history on this forum too, but we could always make it another thread.

This is a more interesting topic. Why not start a new thread about optimal HbA1c, I would like to see your chart.
IMHO this thread could have ended after the first reply from @andcol

I'm happy with 'normal'
'Normal' people don't get diabetic complications, so I don't feel the need to spend my life chasing the lowest number.
It's worked for the last five years for me anyway.

Well it seems perfectly normal for my body on the third day of fasting.. so its obviously ok for me.
I am not advocating that you do it but if my BG is going to go up as I get older (I'm now 55) then I would like that rise to start from the lowest level possible that's why I'm not especially concerned who says what.
I quite happily ignore what the NHS says about Eatwell.. I know that my own personal experience of the HCP's at my practice show they know quite a lot less than me about my Type 2 and alternative treatments for it other than Metformin. I don't want to lift weights an don't believe it helps whatever Djsteve may have to say about it. I manage my diabetes my way.
I am happy to help others and maybe will try to push what has worked for me because of that reason - it has worked for me. As I say in my signature.. everything I recommend I have done myself.

Maybe start your own thread on the topic?

Yes, I think this thread has shown some are obsessive about the lowest Hba1c, the lowest fasting levels, the lowest insulin response, and then completely dismiss everything else as not relevant.

Sometimes the scramble to get the lowest numbers finishes in a place that scares me.
Most people would be ill at that level, so to me that is a very broken metabolism if your are happy there.

I want normal numbers, normal BMI, normal, (or unfortunately higher than normal to some) exercise levels.
Normal people aren't diabetic, they don't get complications, but the gurus selling books seem to have their own gold standard, and suck people in to sell them their own snake oil.

It'll never be that competition to me.
Too low is as bad as too high, (but for different reasons).

Normal is the new high... Was a time D wasn't diagnosed until fasting at 7.7 and Prediabetes wasn't a thing. Pharma involvement no doubt, same with BP and cholesterol.

What, as in 'Pharma want to keep me alive on drugs, the spawns of satan. I'd rather die, like we used to without them'?
It went downhill when some big pharma found antiseptics, and snowballed after that. Bring back the days of the surgeon with the bloodstained apron is what I say!
And anesthesia, devils work, bring back amputations in the days of Nelson!
He could take it!

For all they have done right, they have also got a lot very wrong.... Chasing the dollar does not always equate to appropriate care.

They've known cannabis can cure several cancers since the seventies............

But big pharma' just keep causing cancer?

For four decades?

Without selling a cure, because.........

The jury's out....

Can bet your life money figures in the answer somewhere....

So, your money is on suppressing a cure for cancer?

Me, I sunk several thousands of my pension fund into the only legal company that is actually manufacturing cannabinoids.

As they have gone up by 1400 percent, I don't think they're hiding an ace up their sleeve.
But, if they were, I'll buy a helicopter and a house with a pad one day, so I hope you are right.

I just don't know, but it is undisputable that many cancers can be cured and/or suppressed with cannabis.

The smart money right now is investing in the American recreational market, its booming.

Never happen here, middle England would never allow it, too much propaganda by govt over the years, massive vote loser for our Conservative friends.

I mean who wants neighbours who inject mirijuanas and then go Rob, rape, pillage and murder their own family?

That's the level of ignorance that exists in this country.
