Hello everyone

Any ideas welcome , I have recently started on iron it was very low , not for the first time , my hair has stopped comming out while washing it every morning , but feels very thin , in fact I can see it is very thin , anyone had this experience .....my thyroid medication is fine and my b12 injections are ok , just want my hair to be back to normal again ....

I have had low iron before but can't remember my hair going so awful that was before I was type 2 ....

Thoughts and ideas very welcome .....thank you ....Kat x

Low iron is notorious for causing hair loss but so is hypothyroidism.
I found the symptoms of diabetes were very much like the symptoms of hypothyroidism, including hair loss.

When you have sorted your iron I am sure your hair will grow back. It usually does. If not, look into your thyroid medication and see if it is possible to tweak it a bit.

Hi Kat,

My hair seems to go through periods of being thin, particularly at the front. At one point I actually coloured my scalp with eyebrow pencil to make it less noticeable!

That was several years before being diagnosed with a plethora of endo conditions.I think the meds I take may have helped a little, but unfortunately some of them list hair loss as a side effect, so who knows?

My hair is naturally pretty feeble, so lately I've been using that Elvive Fibrology shampoo and, touch wood, it really seems to work. A few people have asked if I've had my hair done (I go to the hairdressers twice a year) and said it looks thicker and in really good condition.

I hear that Pantene have brought out a similar range which is also supposed to be pretty good.

Hope that helps.

Thank you ness, that was really kind of you to share, I will try that shampoo you suggested, glad your hair is getting in good condition ....it's amazing how quickly it can go thin, I must give the iron chance to work.....yes of course you have helped...thank you ....Kat x

I have had problems with hair loss and I heard that this was one of the many side effects of statins. Because of other problems, and especially wobbly legs, throat problems, and including my hair loss, I have been allowed to stop statins now and hope my hair loss will cease. Too soon to notice a difference yet in any of my problems. I have been put on red rice yeast instead.

The one thing that has caused hair loss for me, several times, is stress. Each time I have had to have it cut short and it recovered.

I am very worried about having my hair cut, it takes so long to grow. The bit over the front of my head is like twenty strands and then my scalp, so if I cut that I will be bald! so what can I do for the best. Do I need to take iron with the horrid side effects that this entails. What to do next is the question, answers will arrive, I hope.

The tide has been going out on my bounce now for over twenty years, I have never worried about it! I could never wear a comb over or a rug!
You don't need a comb or hair dryer, you don't have to wash it every other day.

What part of Scouseland are you from?

I reside on the Wirral.

I am from Walton near the village, although the family has moved to other areas, I do miss Liverpool and like watching any programs about the city. Maybe I should go visit the water front,as there has been so many changes and new buildings. I have noticed that when many men loose their hair they like you say, take it on the bonce, and get along with it, but atleast they can wear hats, caps or what ever. But women, well we sort of cannot do that, and we try to find other ways of getting over the situation. Will keep looking for solutions and maybe things will improve, but till then I will be very gentle when I comb it through, ttfn

The waterfront & Liverpool One has drastically changed and with the new docks development coming soon. The city is developing into a major port again. I grew up with the view of Liverpool across the Mersey.
I wear a cap otherwise my bonce would get very sunburnt. I wouldn't dream of telling you what to suggest for you!
