been feeling like **** all week, was at doctors today took a quick blood count(via pricking finger) was 7.2(i think might of been 7.8 cant remember) also took urine and said had sugar in it, so got to fast till omnday and get blood taken. In time being whats best ot eat as feel really ****** and hungry every cupole of hrs

Strangely enough have some bacon, good sausage, and organic free range eggs. Cut out the white stuff, that would be bread, rice, pasta, and the most obvious one sugar or anything with sugar in it. Orange juice is just a cup of sugar. Use proper butter in cooking, so breakfast can be omlettes with mushrooms. Lunch - chicken salad. Dinner Fish etc.
More folk will be on soon to type more.
My advice tends to be short and sweet, too lazy to type loads.

dont eat white bread at all, but do eat white rice and usually have tricolour pasta. Eat very little fish as dont like it and dont eat eggs either

Well meat then, can you eat meat, rice is a no go, the carbs are converted into glucose (sugar) it spikes blood.
Can you buy a blood glucose meter and test 2 hours after you have eaten? The higher it is the worse the food you just ate is bad for you.

I would wait until you have been tested first to ascertain whether you have diabetes, before assuming. Whilst adhering to the dietary advice above and given on the Forum would serve you well in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you may not have to be as radical if you are not diabetic, a healthy balance of food is always the better option for Health.

2nd time today i have felt very sick, 3-4 hrs after food with a funny taste in my mouth and having to do lots of swallowing ,anyone recommend whats best to do (as in what to eat)

went for a longish walk this morning, abot 40 mins and feel a lot better, just sore eyes (not blurred) and neck pain but certainly not as bad as last 2 days, will the exercise have helped ?

I just read this thread and I have questions.

1, Fasting until Monday? It's only Thursday here. You only need to fast overnight ....ish.
2. Why are you hitting the ground running, your speculative test was not that bad.
3. Walking always helps but I am not sure what with. Feeling sick etc. Your symptoms could be a virus.

We await the outcome of this. Keep us posted.

Oh and about the rice. Basmatti rice is said to be more acceptable but I find that a Chinese chippy sized portion isn't. Reduce the quantity. If you are lucky then you may be able to have a fair portion of potato. Try to avoid things with flour in and, obviously miss out sugar.

The above would be good eating advice even for non diabetics and we are not even sure you are one yet.

Sorry yes meant fast Sunday night for Monday morning blood test

Have looked up blood results on internet and i had eaten 2 hrs before was top end of that

Isnt a virus thats our doctors fave word and no doubt will be told once i see doctors again

That reading isnt too high nor too low...
In fact its a great reading n result!
You really DO need to wait till your own GP confirms the results of your fasting blood test.
We cant really advise or comment on if you are a diabetic or not .
This 'has' to be confirmed by your own doctor .

TESTED MY BLOOD this morning 4 hrs after i last ate anything and reading was 4.7

What's wrong with 4.7, it's a great result although it is usually recommended that you test 2 hours after a meal when you should be at a peak.

I still think you are worrying too much when it seems you can get low sugar results by whatever it is you are doing now.

2 hrs after a meal and the reading is 7.4 good or bad or average?

It would be good for me and indicate that I had a very healthy meal. A stir fry with meat but no potatoes or rice etc.

i had chilli con carne, white rice and grated cheese and chocolate pudding

In that case your reading was surprisingly low. White rice followed by chocolate pudding (made with flour) would have put me in the teens.

First thing in the morning readings are not food dependent since the liver contributes some sugar at this time. Nevertheless I see nothing wrong with that reading and I think that when you have your blood test the result may well be favourable.
