Whelks,winkles... All crustaceous seafood except prawns. Can't do crab.lobster or scallops.
Don't like the way they are killed and cooked. Save our Scallops. SOS !!!
Also HATE evaporated milk.
Having been on a low carb diet for a few days now my mind has been going beck about 20 odd years when I was an avid food combiner.

You never mixed proteins and carbs and some fruits were off limits.

A friend has lost 3 stone by following Slimming Worlds diet and when I looked at the diet sheets again I thought back to the food combining diet.

I have forgotten most of the food combining rules as I seem to remember that you could eat carbs and protein, just not in the same meal.

I am just about to eat a very late brekkie which was also be my lunch and I am going to make an omelette thingy with plenty of veg and 2 eggs and no bread or baked beans and see how that goes.

My breakfast yesterday had Burgen bread, 2 eggs, slice of lean ham and sugar free baked beans. And I had a high reading.

This morning my fasting rate was 7.0. Lower than yesterday and last night when I went to bed it was 8.0 which surprised me as I had a really nice seafood salad,2 small glasses of Rose wine and a slice of toast and marmite with minimal butter. I fully expected my readings to be off the scale....

And I am fast running out of strips and lancets....

When I first started trying to control things I had very variable readings for the first few days. Any bread or beans sent it way up. Was very worried. I had a couple of salmon sandwiches on burgen bread and went to 15.1. Going to try that again at some point.
I cut out carbs and exercised and things quickly came down. I was trying to get a baseline of what was possible.
Had small meals - bacon and eggs, meat and greens, tea and water.
Now I am introducing carbs again slowly and it seems to be coming down even more.

Don't worry. It's more a matter of finding out what affect different foods have on you and will take time - and there will always be some unexplained effects.

hi

No two days are the same - even if you did exactly the same things and ate exactly the same food!

I would say that the bread AND beans is a sure fire problem for the BG readings as you have two sources of carbs there. Although many people can tolerate the Burgen bread, I too find that it raises my readings disappointingly!

After a year of diet and exercise control, I find my results sometimes puzzling. Often when I think they may be off the scale, they're fine - and when I think I've been good, they are too high.......

You just have to keep going and try not to lose enthusiasm.

good luck

I won't lose enthusiasm... It's right up my street is this. Controlling my health.

I an hoping to have a good 1st meeting with my diabetic nurse on Wednesday.

I would have been diagnosed over 2 weeks and I think it's rather a long wait to be honest. Good job I am on here then !!

All I can think of is being Type 2 it may not be so much of a problem as being Type 1?

Maybe that's why I have had to wait for 2 weeks? Surely if I needed insulin etc I would have seen the DN much sooner?

I hope she understands that although I am Type 2 I still want to monitor my food and require a prescription... Although I very much doubt it judging by all the cutbacks down here at the moment....

I am very happy that there is this fine site with so much knowledge.

I thank you all......
