Being so high I can barely open my eyes :(
Hi everyone

I have been low carbing successfully for just over a week. Going to elaborate on that later once I feel more confident about my longevity. I bought some thorntons diabetic humbugs yesterday , plus an atkins advantage bar. Haven't touched the latter yet but i had two humbugs today and have my first high reading of the week showing at 11.2 (before this week that wouldn't have been high for me!!). I'm a bit bemused, the packacking says 4 carbs but of which trace sugars...? Can anyone advise please?

Thanks in advance

Karen

Are you sure it was just the humbugs or a combination of other things you were eating?Only way to be sure would be to test before you eat them,at least two hours after a meal, and then test 2 hours later.this kinda takes the joy out of eating them however!!

Hya Sue

Well every day for the last 8 days I have started the day the same, having my carbs in the morning (2 x weetabix with skimmed milk and a touch of splenda) and have never gone above 7. Haven't eaten anything else this am apart from the 2 humbugs! Strange

Wondering if the atkins choc bar will do the same, will have to try a bit and see later

Oooh is it? My bad, I was so impressed with not going high after eating it too. I need a bit of energy in the morning and can't face a fried breakfast at 7am!!

Thanks Sue

I did reduce my morning isulin from 16 to 8 and didn't go over 7 after weetabix - thats why I thought I was doing well.

I will reduce to one weetabix immediately . Any other breakfast ideas other than bacon & eggs (I have this for lunch)

Back to the original subject...oh dear lord the bag of humbugs is in the bin - lets just say i was thanking the lord i was at home at lunchtime

I have recently discovered German black bread, which is about half the carb percentage of "Normal" bread. You might like that for breakfast. I have it if I'm going out for a hard walk. My usual breakfast is bacon medallions, sometimes with, sometimes without the egg. I have also had Natural Greek Yoghurt (From Lidl 10% fat and delicious) with Lidl's fruit sauce, (just a little bit.)
Or boil the egg or have German breakfast, sliced cheese and sliced cold meat, with low carb cracker.
Take a trip round your nearest Lidl and Aldi stores and look at what's on offer

Thanks Hanadr

I was thinking of greek yoghurt with a small amout of strawberries maybe a couple of times a week

I was also thinking of ordering the low carb bread from the websites i've found too

I will have a gander round aldi :D

Thankyou for all your suggestions - very helpful as ever.
Although I don't class myself as a particularly fussy eater I hate aubergines and cauliflower etc ..sorry!

This is what I have been doing for the past 8 days, which is 100% improvement to my previous life as a carbaholic

Breakfast 10 units levemir & 8 units humalog
2 x weetabix with ss milk & splenda
coffee with cream

Lunch 4/5 units humalog
2 Rashers back bacon
2 Eggs scrambled
1 mushroom
1 tbsn chopped tomatos or 2 grilled cherry toms

Dinner 16 units Levemir, 8 units Humalog
Stir fry - chicken, asparagus, pak choi, spring onion , mushroom, soy sauce, salt

Snack, 1 square 80% lindt choc or 1 chunk cheese plus one slice salami

How does this look please?

Thanks

Karen

i'm proud of myself so far..and was gutted when i got a high reading this am, made me mentally slap myself ..I wonder why I let myself be in the teens for 7 years and just inject upto ten times a day..for a woman who considers herself intelligent that makes me sound pretty darn stupid!

Have you found a more suitable sweetener at all?

Karen

I haven't heard of sweetex, will have a look for some. I did buy a bottle of agave syrup but i havent tried it yet - it's been in the cupboard for 6 months!

thanks sue, will have a look in holland & barret

Kareeta, you honestly don't need sweeteners!!Try without for a week and I guarantee you will not go back to any kind of sweetener.I just use the powdered cinnamon you can buy in the supermarket.

ok sue will give it a shot, i was thinking more of my daily coffee but i could do without at a push :)

Once you get used to tea or coffee without sugar/sweetener you will not go back.I'm nearly sick if I drink anything sweet nowadays.

The only time I have previously had a hot drink without sweetener is when i order a latte in Starbucks, wierdly it seems sweet enough then

Just a thing about the Thorntons Diabetic, Choc.

I was wanting choc today so i popped in and got a little bag. Had one with my lunch (oh it was lovely)

However it most certainly does not like me, nothing to do with BG readings i can assure you.
