I posted last night with a worry and wanted some more info today.

My figures range from 4.9 to 5.9. I don't like to go above 6 if I can help it unless I am going to do exercise (walking) when I build to 8ish. My figures tend to rise a few points in the night. If I go to bed 5.2 I would wake up about 5.6

Last night I tested before bed and was 4.4 and was a bit scared to go to bed. Went when I managed to get it to 5.5.

To those with similar figures, what do you consider to be a 'too low' bedtime figure. I've read the guidelines but 8 is too high for me.

Lemonie, i too don't like to go above 6[ in my case even when exercising.
You don't say what medication, if any, you use.
I don't do anything to raise my g. I don't feel i need to.
I'm on minimal Metformin ONLY. .
if i were using insulin or a Sulphonylurea, I' want to get up to 5 or 6 at bedtime and perhaps take the stuff earlier, so it's activity was less over night

Hi Hannah

My meds are in my signature. I just use Levemir and Victoza at the moment.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry Lemonie
i didn't read down far enough.
I don't know enough about those medications, even to make a suggestion

I am on 1 x Metformin only, I don't worry how low I am when I go to bed

It depends I suppose how stable your figures are. If you 'always' have the same pattern of 0.5 mmol rise from bedtime till morning, I wouldn't worry.

I am on Levemir and NovoRapid myself. I tend to want to go to bed at around 5. I would get a little uneasy if my number was lower than that, but that is more like a built-in buffer.

I am slightly uncertain about how good low-carb livers are at doing liver-dumps. We tend to suggest lower carb will get rid of some of the excessive dawn phenomena, so if that is true, it's likely the opposite is true too...

I think unless I'd just done something crazy exercise wise or had just taken rapid acting, I would measure 4.4, grab a handful of almonds or a sausage and go to land of nod thinking that the body will convert/use stuff if needed.

I tend to trust in protein more than carbohydrate for slow drops in glucose and overnight. For rapid drops, it's a different case.

Bit of a ramble, I guess - but just my own personal experience and preference.

Low-moderate carber myself - 50-75g area most days, slightly more when I'm super-active.
