Wowee is my nurse ever impressed with me
When I was diagnosed in March, my hb1ac level was right at 50 (I have been told this is 6.7%?). I have cut carb intake in half (more than half!) and eliminated ALL white flour products from my diet, all potatoes, and all rice. I have limited my brown bread and pasta intake (less than once a week, when before pasta was a meal-time staple). I also have avoided all crisps/other crunch snacks and I have not eaten a regular sized candy bar in one sitting since (I'll have a bite of my husband's bar, or I will eat a single hero-sized bar if I'm in the mood). I also haven't had ice cream, pizza, or subway (my three basic food groups when I was at Uni) since March and have stopped my fizzy drink addiction (I used to drink 1 500ml pepsi max a day, now I have one of the small 250ml tins about every other day). I do not order a pudding when we go out anymore, instead I get a skinny sugar free hazlenut coffee as my treat.
Had my blood test check up last week, and my appointment with my nurse today.
Since March, I have lost a stone of weight, which amounts to 6% of my starting weight.
My hb1ac level.....36. (she told me that made 5.4%)
My cholesterol? 4.8%
Blood Pressure was elevated, but not high enough for it to be a worry, as having elevated BP is something a bit normal for me.
The only prescription I walked away with was one for Folic Acid, since the dietician at the Spotlight thing told me a diabetic needs a higher dose of it for pregnancy, and we're still planning on trying for a baby.
Just need to keep up the INCREDIBLE work I have been doing. Seriously folks, I am so super proud of myself right now and I know I probably sound narcissistic right now, but I'm really pleased with myself!!
