Thrush

Hi I’ve had t1 diabetes for over 15 years and 2 months ago had symptoms of thrush. And the doctors prescribed flucloxacillin I completed the course on that and it hadn’t worked. I was then prescribed daktacort 15g cream. This still has not worked. Nothing seems to be working and it’s really affecting my concentration. I was wondering for the people who have got rid of it how did you do it?

What are your blood sugars like?
One of the reasons that we are susceptible to thrush is that the glucose in our urine when our levels are high provide a good "breeding ground" for thrush.

Therefore, it is important to lower your levels if they are high.
Once my levels were reduced, my thrush disappeared.

There haven’t changed and that much. And my hba1c was 7.2 which is the lowest it’s been in a long time.

I could be wrong, but not heard of flucloxacillin being used to treat thrush before, more that as with all antibiotics it can cause thrush.

You could try fluconazole which is a tablet, available over the counter or on prescription, to threat the thrush.

They gave me flucloxacilin in the beginning because I was passing blood

If you're still passing blood, have you asked for tests to determine why?

When I had it really bad I was told to repeat the dose about a week later and it got rid of it.

2 possible reasons that I've heard of are too high blood sugars, or if your partner has thrush, they could be passing it on to you.

I cannot remember but my diabetic nurse said that it can sometimes take a few attempts to knock it on its head. Best to speak to the DN or GP. The trick after was to get my sugars under control and to date so far, its not reared its ugly head.

I’ve experienced that a few times and it’s always been down to high readings soon as I correct them couple days it’s gone
