Hi all

I am aware that this subject has already been raised - tried to reply to the forum item contained in the last e-mail, but when I logged in was not taken to the post in question. I am aged 62, T2 for 6 years controlled by diet and exercise, weighing 172Lbs, 5'11", have excellent blood pressure and a HbA1c ot 5.7, but recently have been experiencing a thumping heartbeat sensation in my chest which sometimes has an irregular heartbeat and sometimes a fluttering sensation. It does not appear to have a set pattern - can last for a few minutes or a few hours, can happen shortly after a meal or can be a few hours after eating. The feeling is very annoying but, to be honest, I don't think it is coming from my heart - whilst the effect feels like my heart beating very strongly, the location feels more like the top of my stomach. Does anyone have any answers as to what it could be?

Regards - jaunty

Hi Jaunty

What you describe doesn't sound to me to be anything diabetes-related, though of course I am not medically qualified. The only thing I can remotely relate to with this is hypos or hypers, but with no set pattern and no direct relation to meals, it shouldn't be either. When did you last have an ECG done?

In your place I would go see my doctor and describe your symptoms exactly as you have done here. Better safe than sorry! :D

Definitely something your gp should be investigating just to be on the safe side.

I suffer from angina and arrhythmia. I can get pain and/or palpitations above, below, to the left and right of my heart, they can be felt in my back, arms and even my jaw. Just because it doesn't feel like isn't coming from your heart doesn't mean it isn't your heart.

Go see your GP asap

Thanks for the replies. I have not had an ECG since my diabetes diagnosis six years ago, but will take your advice and go see my GP.
