Time for a new beginning....

I tried posting this last night but just couldn't log onto the site.... Felt like my lifeline had been turned off

Oops!! I have upped the fats and not been strictly low carbing as I should be .
Thanks for explaining the above Ethyl, it makes perfect sense.... I've sooo much to learn.

Aha!
There's your problem.

Think of it like a seesaw.

If you eat high carb, you need to eat low fat.
If you eat high fat, you MUST eat low carb.

The closer the seesaw is to level, the more prone to weight gain you will be...

That's a great analogy :)

This explains so much of where I've been going wrong since diagnosis.
I was slim before diabetes... then I became addicted to carbs and put on a few stone that I've struggled to lose :meh:

Finally, Today's the day, I've turned the carb monitor down and am even learning how to 'eat to my meter'

Hi , first post but thought I must . I have struggled for over 10 yeas was type 1.5 but now they think type 2 , I have tried everything and I injecting a lot of insulin ( 120 units per day of slow acting and 80 or so units a day of fast acting ) along with metformin and others . I was always 15 or above after fasting and would typically spend the day between 15-20 I would get readings well over 20 a few times a week , never felt ill on them never went to the toilet much . but it started to affect other things so needed to be sorted . Just over a week ago I started Dapagilflozin WOW is all I can say . I take one a day and along with some slow acting insulin about 20 units I can stay under 10 all day watching what I eat . I can now easily see which foods raise my count . I am struggling to come to terms with being low as when I get under 10 I feel sick and get the shakes . I have stopped taking metformin ( it always gave me Diarrhea) so pleased about that . just hope I don't get any side affect of urinary tract infections but I will live with that .

Hello cueball and welcome to the forum.

It's great that you've been able to reduce the insulin considerably And come off metformin :)

I've been on dapagilflozin for about 6 six weeks and noticed a reduction in blood sugars from day 1.
To try and prevent urinary tract infections...I drink loads of water and very low sugar cranberry juice.... Think this helps.
