Hi all
I seem to be doing OK since diagnosis 5 months ago - bg looking OK as far as the Libre says, anyway. Have lost over 26 pounds and still losing though very gradually. Have got my next hba1c in 10 days so will know for sure then. But still feel exhausted and tired out a lot of the time. Anyone else feel like this??

Yes, but you have to bare in mind that there are several things going on. Well done on the weight loss which might be part of the reason for feeling tired.

Also, type II and insulin resistance is partly to blame. To provide us with energy, insulin is needed to transport glucose from blood into our cells to be used for energy.

I certainly have gotten a better feeling in my brain that was all the time very tired like having the flu cronically in my head..

I did do this fasting in the first 4 month where I didn´t eat from 19 o´clock til next day at 12 o´clock these many hours of not eating lowers the insuline that is far far too high in type 2 diabetics all the time.. and I think the overload of insuline also can atribute to the cronical tiredness.

I also did drink 2 spoonfull of apple cider vinegar in a lot of water every evening while not eating and did chew 10 pieces of sugarfree gum too to be able to not eat the many hours, some days also drank the mixture in the mornings, don´t drink more than 2 tablespoons of the apple cider vinegar a day... it is not healthy in higher amounts... and if you have kidney problems it is maybe not good either.
all the time as I have gone low calories and lower carbing I also have taken a multivitamin pill every day and a vitamin d higher dose and now also a vitamin K2 every day...

when loosing rapidly I think one must make sure to every day get the proteins one need and other nutrients .. so remember the 0.8 gram of protein pro kg body weight every day and maybe even a little more... but most do get enough proteins on low carb high fat...and some also all the vitamins...

I feel much better after doing all the excercise, I think mostly because my body doesn´t have as much work keeping me healthy , and because I have build quite a lot of musclemass in my legs now.. maybe helping a lot in storing glucose that I couldn´t do before where I was extremly sedentary

I'm battling tiredness in the evening at the moment, and I think I may just be eating a little too little.

I can go for a couple of days on about 1,200 kcals (with a 6 mile walk to burn around 700 kcals) but on the third day I get very sleepy and hungry in the evening.

I think this is because my body is starting to panic. I don't think it is low salt, but a little broth has been recommended by others including Volek & Phinney.

Thanks so much, everyone! @Freema that is very helpful. Yes, I feel like I have a flu-type of tiredness all the time. Did it take a lot to be able to exercise for reasonable amounts of time??

Can you tell us what you eat on the average day?

One reason for tiredness can be lack of salt if you are very low carbohydrate.

Another reason is the "carb flu" that you can experience whilst your body is switching from glucose to ketones as the main fuel, and can last for 2-3 weeks. If you don't stick to a rigid low cab diet for that 2-3 weeks then extra carbs can knock you out of the ketosis zone and back into the "carb flu" zone in one day. If you are unlucky you may find yourself permanently in the "carb flu" zone.

I didn´t do extremely much exercise before I had lost the first 12 kg at least.... it would have been impossible

Well, I had 1 test at the same time as the first hba1c but I gather thyroid issues can be complex... I eat less than 40 carbs a day ...

Certainly at the start it was awful trying to exercise.. Weird, also, since I weigh a lot less than I use to but have far less energy!

There's a strong link between Type2 and depression; whether this is physiological or psychological is unknown but probably both. Speaking from personal experience I've suffered from both and tiredness is I believe related to the depression. Anti depressants can help as does counselling.

this is true among us seniors ,but I have yet to meet a senior who is volunteering and also depressed.

@Angelofthemarches
Agreed.
Also, that statement implies that age is linked to volunteering and depression. Are working age people who volunteer more likely to be depressed than seniors who volunteer? It seems unlikely.

Depression is such a complex and personal issue.
