hi
I was diagnosed just over a year ago and been on metformin since and was given the same advice as you, not to test at home. In the past year my hba1c levels have been up and down and not well controlled. Since coming on here and reading the advice on my next appointment i'm going to push for a meter to help me gain control. On metformin they say no concerns of hypos, but how do you know what you are eating is not effecting your blood sugars as different foods effect us all ion different ways and if a certain food raises your bloods how will you know to avoid it or lower your portion sizes, if you don't test. Try speaking to your care team and pushing for a meter or failing that my advice wold be to purchase one yourself.
I'm sure other people will agree with me and will also give you their advice and support, good luck with it all xx

Hi, phjones55

Welcome to the forum. :)

You will get lots of recommendations to get a Bg meter on this forum.

Once you have and use one you will then agree it is so necessary to control your diabetes.

You can get one from amazon (codefree bg meter) which is a good price and their test strips are great value.

I will never understand why all diabetes nurse's can not be honest, and just tell the truth about the cost on the NHS.

All the best and good luck.

Roy. :)
