Type 2 To eat or not to eat ...

Hi. Am I right in saying you are a bit overweight as I noticed the 118cm waist measure? As you continue with the low-carb diet the weight should go down and so should the BS so just keep at it. That Sitagliptin dose of 25mg seems quite low as I thought the standard dose was 100mg but I may be wrong and we're all different and with a bit of luck before long you may not even need it.

More than a 'bit' :-D put 5 stone on taking mirtazipine for depression and have never been able to shift it ... Even though I stopped taking it about six years ago.

Waist has gone down about an inch in the last three weeks and I can now get past the car in the garage without having to fold the wing mirror in :-)

I'm hoping that a month or two will definitely start to see an improvement - I've lost about 8lb in three weeks. Just need to find how my body reacts and the best way to deal with high sugars.

Don't talk to me about the Sitagliptin dose! I think it should have been higher but it was prescribed by the same doctor who changed me onto Metformin SR two years ago while halving the dosage - saying that I would only need half as much. I took her word but the pharmacist queried the dosage. After two days of ringing the surgery I finally got to speak to the doctor who basically refused to admit the error and just returned me to the bog standard Metformin at the old dosage! Needless to say I choose a different doctor now when I book an appointment!

Your low carb is working well with your weight loss - well done. Concentrating on your blood sugars over and above weight loss is a good plan. Hopefully the weight will continue to disappear as a bonus rather than an aim, if that makes sense.

I'm not surprised you changed your doctor. I would like to bet he halved your SR Metformin dose because it is a lot more expensive than the bog standard version. If you can't get your base levels down (pre-meals and bedtime, not necessarily morning fasting) I would have a discussion with your new doctor about upping your Sitagliptin dose as it may mean your pancreas needs additional help.

That's what I'm aiming for - get the blood sugars sorted and any weight loss is a gain. Then look to alter my eating to promote weight loss as well as blood sugar control

Seeing him tomorrow (the previous one was a 'she' BTW) - I had tried moving the Sitaglipin to late at night to see if it affected the DP but not obviously- in fact I think it probably gets the levels down quicker in the morning. The DN suggested canaglifozin when I saw her at the start of Feb - reading up on it made me start LCHF as there is no way I'm going to take it! Hoping the doc will up the Sitaglipin or give me a couple more months on the new 'healthy eating' regime!
