Type 2
I was diagnosed with T2 6 weeks ago and am on 500mg Merformin a day.
On a good low carb diet and lost nearly 21 lbs
In that time

Is the excessive urine due to the weight loss - it is really depressing me?

The frequent urination is due to high blood glucose. It is your body (kidneys) response. As your levels fall so should the frequency. Congrats on your weight loss, good job.

Keep an eye on your results for kidney function tests and remember to stay hydrated.

Thank you at least something is right!

Would I be correct in thinking if I didn't lose weight my urine frequency would remain the same as before ?

Whenever I started low carbing after bing ordered to stick to a doctor approved diet plan I noticed more frequent trips to the bathroom until I had lost about a stone, but that was long before diagnosis.
Hopefully as your numbers for everything reduce things will stabilise.
Do stay hydrated - there is probably a lot going on and you might need to throw out all sorts of things to sort out your metabolism. Fat is storage for various toxins, which would not help your kidneys if they had to deal with them in concentrated form.

Diabetes affects all systems in the body. If you have lost weight by lowering your carb intake then your blood glucose levels should have fallen, too. So, it is falling blood glucose levels that would ease the frequency.
The kidneys in the bodies of diabetic people with uncontrolled blood glucose try to get rid of the 'toxic' levels by producing more urine, this in turn leads to excessive thirst. Until levels are lowered and become more controlled the thirst/urination cycle continues.

It is important to note here that some people lower their bg but do not lose vast amounts of weight. We are all unique.
