Hi I am starting college in a month so I think about taking my meter to school with me do I need to as I going to school two days a week all day what do think thanks :?

Hi Shelley.

Depends on how often you are testing each day. If you test a lot then you will need your meter. If you are not at risk of a Hypo or Hyper reading then again you wouldn't need your meter. It is all down to the individual testing regime you are using at the moment. There are very small meters which fit in your pocket or bag which you can take everywhere with no bulky cases.

Personally I have a meter with me at all times but I am on medication which can induce Hypo's so I need to know exactly what is happening, especially before Driving.

Ken.

Personally, i'd take it.

With the stress of starting new school, new friend and people etc it can affect your BSL.
If you have it, you can test if you need to.
If not, then you haven't lost anything. They're small, light, so won't really make much difference if you take it or not.
The downsides to not taking it are worse than the downsides of not.

But that's just me :)

Good luck on college !

i know this is really stupid but what is a hypo and will I get one at some point. if this has already been explained on here could you please point me in the right direction. thankyou

look for the "stickies" thread. I'm sure there's something about hypos there.
You won't have one unless you eat nothing for a long while or use a medication, such as insulin or a sulphonylurea, which can cause it.
T2s on diet or Metformin RARELY get hypo
Non-diabetics on "starvation" dietss can get hypo, but non-diabetics recover quickly.
Hypos from not eain are less potentially dangerous than those caused by medication.
