Hi

On the front cover of the Daily Express it says :-

Regular walking fights off diabetes taking a short 15 minute walk. In it, it states that the 15 minute walk is just as good as longer bouts for exercise. It's best taken after meals, especially the main meal and most people should be able to do this. It would seem exercise is good then

Best wishes RRB

That's good to know. I walk the dog 4 times a day which is about 3+ miles. I have often wondered about having my main meal earlier in the day rather than the evening as is traditional. Not very sociable or practical etc. but eating most of my carbs in the evening then slouching around on the sofa does not seem very sensible. I really need my carbs during the day when I am exerting more energy (sort of). Should, in theory, lower my bGs.

That's a good point about the evening meal and carbs, but it would be difficult for me ( and probably many others too) to have a main meal during the day. It's great to be out and about, especially in the warmer lighter evenings, but my exercise is mainly during the day.

I would have to agree with that statement RRB. My friend and I started to go for walks as part of our diet regime. It has now turned into a way of maintaining our present, acceptable, condition. I think that if we hadn't started our walks we wouldn't have lost the weight we did and be as fit as we are. Which in my case aint saying a lot, but I could be worse! My friend, as I have mentioned in other posts, is a remarkable 83 year old lady. She bought her first car, a 1930 Austin 7, in 1958. 2 years later she had passed her test and drove it to Czechoslovakia with her husband as navigator because he couldn't drive. Amazing. She still has the car and we use it often. We walked on Portreath beach today. 1/2 mile walk to the beach, walk along the beach both ways, about 1/2 mile again, then walk back to the car. If the sand is soft the walking is harder. The sea air clears the lungs too.

Wow that's a fantastic story about the lady and dare I say, that was the year I was born

I love walking and the beach and the water, well its just a heavenly combination, rivers too. I sometimes wish I could drive, so I could take my daughter out to the countryside or just pop down to the seaside for an hour with binoculars and breathe in all that sea air, looking in rock pools and taking in the beauty of our beaches and or our countryside. I know full well if I lived around these places, I wouldn't be home much and nothing would get done!!!!!!!!!
