Hi

I was diagnosed as type 2 , managed through diet and glucophage 1x 850mg per day 1 year ago. for the past 2 months my toe nails have become brittle breaking easily and now I have 1 big toenail that has split across the middle and my other big toe has a tiny black spot near the cuticle. There has been no trauma to either toe. Though I did have a shellac manicure a couple of months ago but these came off/grew out with no real issue so I'm wondering is this in any way connected to my diabetes? Advice please as I've never had any issues with my toenails before now.

Thanks

I think you should see your G.P. about this as it could have several causes.
Overview
The condition of your toenails may change throughout your life. Brittle toenails can develop as you get older, or they may be an indicator of an underlying medical problem. See your doctor for an accurate diagnosis of the cause of your brittle toenails.

Common Changes
Toenails may become more brittle as a part of the body's natural aging process. To minimize damage, keep your toenails trimmed and moisturized, avoid picking at them and wearing constrictive shoes, and avoid nail polish. Nail polish itself can cause chemical damage and brittle toenails.

Thank you. I was really concerned after reading on internet that any toe problems can be an issue for diabetics so was seeking further advice before going to GP but will just get myself to GP ASAP. Thank you again.
