Sorry to anyone just eating but I need to ask a rather delicate question.

I’ve found my self going to the toilet (near sprinting at times) several times today which always begins with the most uncomfortable cramps I’ve ever experienced.

I’ve had minor bouts in the past where I’ve either eaten very little or eaten anything at all with taking my Metformin s/r, Gliclazide I just assumed that it was the medication removing my stomach lining!

But this is the first time I’ve experienced it in a while and now I’m beginning to think am I having too much in the way of fibre (veg intake) on my new eating regime and it’s now starting to catch up with me?

I only now drink black coffee and water.

Has anyone else experienced episodes like this? Did you find anything that helped it?

I got a bit squitzy when switching to Lchf.

I reduce fats , cream especially and switched to bio yogert. That sorted things.

Hi @Type-2-Havent-A-Clue Just as a matter of interest, have your blood sugar readings been okay? If ever I had bad cramps followed by urgent visits to the reading room, I invariably found that my BS had gone up dramatically. Once I had brought it down to a consistent acceptable level, I stopped needing to run. However, as you say, this might have something to do with your meds. Good luck!

When dropping down the amount of carbs and upping the fats, constipation sneaked in, in a painful way. I have been using flax seed and plenty of fluids to help counter it.

It is recommended to take Metformin with food to avoid gastric upset. If it persists ask to switch to the slow release version. It’s kinder to your insides.

My suggestions were going to be similar to @Rachox , except to add in if your doings smell rancid, or appear oily (make an oil slick in the water), then you may have breached your personal fat consumption threshold, although I'd tend to go with the Metformin on an empty tummy being the culprit.

Could maybe be time to have a chat with your Doc about any meds you are taking. They may require tweaking.

I think from the above you will see that the op is already on slow relese metformin.

I too have had episodes like that and like the op I haven't a clue why, I always take metformin with food it doesn't happen often but it's not pleasant when it does.
