I suspect you may just need to keep topping up your carbs while you are working...
You're doing a job that's physical, you are probably fitter and will need more fuel.
I find that even something as gentle as playing golf will require carbs topping up regularly on the way round or I'll hypo,so carrying tubes, climbing scaffolding and so on will burn up the sugar in your blood faster.
Interesting you say that, I did 2 hours at 28.5km on the bike yesterday on 37.5g carbs, 3 fig rolls. By any publication I can cite, I apparently should have neede 120g carbs plus for that.
Point being, if you get the insulin right and are sufficiently adjusted to that, you can effectively utilise your fat-metabolism as well as carbs
