dr has now switched me from isophane twice a day total dose of 55 to glargine once a day in evening dose 30...he told me that this would help me being over insulinised. that i would need to do far more correctionals for the first few days and then thing s should settle down.

after talking to the diabetes nurse she felt that perhaps as i take too much insulin that that is what cause s all my problems with the adrenaline... its in constant over drive and drains me in all sorts of ways.

wow what a mess.....i had put this in a document and it wasn't allowed through so i copied and pasted and this is what happened.....there is no neat rows to follow!...any suggestions....i had already re typed it up and then the whole lot was lost and i am losing concentration and the will!

last night the nurse had said to up the dose from my 34 i had got to to 40.. and see how i go for the weekend....so i did. i was tired and went to bed at 9pm and woke with a start at 12.30 am.....my adrenaline was going, my heart thumping like crazy and i felt shaky and awful. my sugars had come right down to 5.9......i had one square of choc and put the lucozade next to me. i had a very restless night and felt awful and 'wired' the whole night. i got up numerous times. my husbands alarm clock this morning with a small noise kept setting my heart palpatations off and i felt worse. I got out of bed exhausted and feeling very weak. my blood was still at 5.9......
had my breakfast and took insulin after as i felt so shaky.......within two hours i was up to a 16 and have felt terrible all day. an awful tension headache....and i just don't know what to do.

this 'buzzing' feeling of adrenaline just comes on and exhausts me. i am on 150 setraline to help.

any thoughts....any help.....the dr and nurse don't understand it either...that was always the case and it seems no different now.....

Is it possible for you to find your orginal document on your PC in Word? If so, re-save it as a html doc instead of a Word doc and then you should be able to edit your message and copy and paste it so that everyone can understand your readings.

Hi megan,

It's quite difficult to read your results as they aren't in line..

I can see that you upped your night time dose from 30 to 32 to 34.. This looks like you waited a few days as you should whilst altering background insulin..

However all of a sudden this jumps to 40units if i read this correctly? this is a pretty big jump as you previously was upping by 2 units. Also coincidentally you write you had an awful night..?

thats the only thing i can pick out without your results being in a clearer format..

It also would be a good idea megan if you could fill out your profile so we can see what type you are, how long you've been diagnosed and what medications you take. What insulins you use and what regime you are on. All helpful information to piece together to help advise you correctly :)

If you could try iHs's suggestion or maybe fill in the results on an excel spreadsheet by hand if your able to do so easily..

tried the other methods and still can't manage it...got hubby involved and he can't either....i typed it all in by hand and then the whole lot got lost.....ran out of ideas at mo...will try again tomorrow...

but to add....i have done the DAFNE regime for some years and have been on split dose basal and now back to single dose and have tried metformin

yes it was a big jump to 40, but the diabetes nurse told me to do that....and whilst it went against the grain, i am having to tow the 'what they tell me' line, even if i don't agree with it, as its the only way i can move forward and perhaps get a referal eventually on to somewhere else.

they don't like too much free will on the thinking front :)

Hi megan,

Poor you...lots of streess!!

Glargine is "supposed" to have a profile for 24 hours so there isnt supposed to be peaks and troughs. I found when i was using glargine that i had to take it at the same time every night to maintain the profile. Maybe you are sensitive to the insulin, i know i was. Any small change in dosage would set me back so if DSN did change it went up in 2u increments.

Hope this helps

Josie.

thanks for that....any bit of info can help...its been 10 years since i was last on glargine and it def did not last even 22 hours.....hence the eventual change onto levemir when it came out and then eventually the split dose....but i'm kind of relying on times of change and progress...

I had been gradually increasing by 2u...but then the other day the DSN said to 'crank it up to 40'....this was from 34......i have reduced it myself and the second night i have been on 38 and this morning i woke with a hypo.
so i shall be reducing it again tonight.

still can't get the neat line of results to show up neat here....i shall have to type it out again but can't focus enough now.....coming up from hypo and getting numbness and pins and needles in my hands and legs....very tired :)

I have to say that putting it up to 40u is a lot of a jump because with glargine it takes about 3 days (i think) to establish a pattern to see if you are on the right dose........I would leave at about 36 for 3 nights and see what happens to bs then phone dsn and explain problem to her......it may be that glargine is not suitable for you

Josie

well here goes again....i have put it all in by hand again and hope it makes more sense.

the DSN instructed me to increase the glargine to 40.....it was an awful night. she was please about this because she said it meant i could now lower my insulin.
so she asked if i was ok to go for something drastic. so i went with it and we have dropped the glargine to 24. she said it was a normal set dose to start someone off on my height etc.
so i started it and its all set out below. the only thing is that i have had to move flat given short notice and then move on again and its been hectic and so i haven't written all my doses in. but there is not a huge change in them except that i feel i am taking a little less in the correctional doses.

.......then last night i felt i needed to know more of what was going on over night as i felt such serges of adrenaline in the morning and then heavy bloods. so i set my alarm and the night went as follows:
2am..........8.7
4am..........7.8
6am..........7.4
8am..........6.3
9am..........8.1........breakfast.....insulin 7 novo

before lunch blood 13....then 2 - 3 hours later blood sugar 5.4

so over night looked great for me.....so i felt that as my sugars were coming down til this morning then i may need to try to reduce my glargine. so tonight i have reduced by 2.

my DSN feels that having 'too much' insulin on board may be what sends everything 'do-lally'...and making my adrenaline go bonkers.....although i do get the impression she doesn't entirely believe me on the adrenaline front.

with stress of recent i have found that my symptoms of the fibromyalgia are braking through my setraline and i have found things increasingly more difficult physically.
4 months ago i couldn't swim a length in the pool then of more recent i have managed to do 20 to 30 lengths of the pool. Now i have had to stop again for a while and find myself out of breath and achy in various ways quite quickly.

any thoughts on the insulin and sugars welcomed.
still perservering :(

just posted this and seen that its grouped all my figures together agian!.....i don't know what else to do to keep it in the lines and order that i typed it in so that you can read it

Hi Megan,

Based only on the overnight fasting results you posted above...couldn't understand the "bunch" of results sorry...it looked to me at tleast that your glargine was OK? It held you steady over night. You went dolally during the day, suggesting to me that you carb: fast acting insulin rate needs to be tweaked a bit?

so here we are....eventually i have managed to get this info insome kind of order on here thanks to you guys who gave me some advice. i did do the scan and it looked fine but apparently was too big to be accepted on here....even a page with very little numbers.

anyway.....i feel awful.....thirsty and achy.....sleepy
i'm not very energetic company!
i think tonight i shall start to increase the glargine again.....i had reduced it from 24 to 22 because the pattern looked like i may be going low over night with my adrenaline then working and my liver kindly giving me some extra sugar and so waking with a high.

that one night i tested every 2 hours certainly looked that way. but its still not getting any kind of control or pattern, or maybe i'm just too tired.
the fibromyalgia seems to be causing me some problems too....so i don't know why its breaking through or if its the diabetes thats causing that,
what i do know is i need some advice and help.

too much insulin, too little insulin, theres got to be a balance that helps pull this into line better than it is

Hi Megan

Have you had your adrenal gland checked out. Issues with this gland can cause the overproduction of adrenaline and the symptoms you describe.

Regards

Doug

Data chart that you have have posted here is quite difficult to understand as the columns are displaced and the data has lost its meaning. you can share by attaching the file in the format of word.doc.

it is saved as a jpeg at the mo....i have followed some other helpful advice but the site is still telling me it is too big to be accepted....how do i turn it into a word.doc

have continued to try and still can't seem to manage it....not feeling well either

sounds interesting...had thought of adrenal fatigue before but my past gp just dismissed it...i shall try asking my new gp...thanks for the suggestion :)

Happy to help, Megan. Don't let the GP fob you off, that's not what he is there for! He is there to help your return to good health - even if it means a blood test or a consultant referral. It would be good to know how you get on.

Sending you well thoughts

Doug

thank you.....i have written to gp as i am not in the same area at the mo to get there, have put forth the suggestion and question of possible testing on this.....as i am staying with my family at the mo and we all work together with the children, i am not waking on my own naturally til well into the morning and i ache and walk around like an old woman. i feel like i am being lazy but i can 't help it.
just lifting a small carrier bag sent my arms aching this morning and my hips and lower back are burning inside.....not moaning really, just want to get better and get some good blood sugars, haven't had that for years as nothing seems to make any difference

Are the aches and pains your getting today a new symptom? Just wondering if you could be going down with the flu or something similar as that will probably send your BG's high.

no, the aches and pains have been going on for a good part of a year. they started to take longer for me to feel better, then earlier this year more parts of me were aching and hurting and then i seemed to have pulled a muscle in my groin and then the walking got worse, then my ankles and legs and arm etc etc.

after 3 visits to the gp then eventually i changed gp, she believes its fibromyalgia. obviously theres a lot more too it that what i have explained. and i tick a lot of the symptoms boxes.

i had been on prozac for about 5 years after a horrible time in hospital and the end of a pregnancy. i had kept telling the dr that i didn't feel the prozac was making any difference. he wouldn't listen. he said fine when i said i'll double up on the prozac. after the summer it hadn't made any difference. so i said i would reduce it again and he said 'fine'.
still didn't make any difference.

so then this year with having a new gp she said she would try me on setraline.
the pains started to improve after about 2 months.
i was doing better and then able to start swimming. in the last 3 weeks the pains and difficulties have started to break through again.

now i constanlty feel tired, exhausted, dehydrated, and various aches and pains, from burning to ceased up fingers......
a few years ago i had had an antibiotic that had greatly reduced my insulin requirements by a third by the end of the week. i had a couple of days in that week when along with the good bloods, i felt the best i had in a very very long time!
