Yesterday for lunch, I had a ham salad (again!) so when I tests before I tried something experimental with a mid afternoon treat. My BSLs had a spike, I couldn't understand it! It's only just occurred to me whilst cleaning my teeth(still got em at my age!) that this was the only anomaly. Was it a rogue reading or the toothpaste?

Doubt very much it was the toothpaste Nosher, more likely to be your afternoon treat.

I doubt it too. How big was the spike, and what are you comparing it with?

I don't spike, usually, it must be a rogue reading if it's not the toothpaste. It wasn't my treat cos I had it after my reading and my reading after that was down by 3.0!

Look at the ingredients of your toothpaste, some contain Sorbitol, this may possibly be the reason.

Can't think you would use enough toothpaste to make a difference - it's only a small amount an I don't know about you but I spit (sorry -gross I know) and then rinse so it's not as if very much if any is actually swallowed. What about the test strip? Could you have had something on your finger when you picked up the strip or used the lancet and got a false reading off your fingers?

I doubt it was the toothpaste but I just wanted to point something else out. I had a possible hypo a few months ago and was given some sugary water. I checked my bs within a minute or so and it had gone up. My doctor said it can get into the bloodstream quickly because it goes in through the gums. I didn't know that.
