Getting desperate, only had a bowl of vegetable soup for lunch with a bread roll now blood sugar has risen to 13.7.
Same applies if I have Kippers for Breakfast with bread, blood sugar just shoots up.
What can I do?

It's a, isn't it? Bread of any kind gives me IBS problems too, so I do get the compensation of better digestion when I keep off it completely. Have you tried the low-carb varieties they have in Waitrose or Sainsburys? If you still have the problem then you will just have to compensate with other foodstuffs. I eat loads more eggs than I ever used to, for instance.

Change your diet! I cannot tolerate bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. You could try mine. See

Best thing I ever did! I have also lost 3.5 stone!

what scandi said and
it's good you have a meter
check the roll package and if a tin soup, the can for carbs
it wouldn't surprise me if it was 50g carb lunch, most early diagnosed T2 can't handle that

I am in the same knarr as Scandichic. In fact I have to avoid anything with flour in it. These days when I go into Tesco I can smell the bread and cake aisle and just don't go in it.

The majority of type 2's say they have to avoid bread.

Yes, eat to your meter.

A small amount of Burgen Soya and Linseed, or a real rye bread (dark, heavy, and an acquired taste though) could be worth a try.

I don't touch any of the products I mentioned. The LCHF works for me but I know that @douglas99 has had a lot of success with low GI so if you fancy this route then I'm sure he'll help. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Don't eat soup and bread. Simples.
Try cheese on oatbakes ( three Nairnshire oatbakes 15 carbs)
Or cheese omelette with a bit of salad ( count the tomatoes)
Home made soup using low carb ingredients. Eat lots, no bread.
