I've had to adjust my levemir quite a bit in the last few weeks to try and get a good balance, I was offered Toujeo to see if it can help improve my levels and keep me more stable. I'm aware this is very new, only used in the UK since last month but is anyone else on it? What do people know about it, I know very little myself other than it's a more concentrated version of Lantus that results in less hypos at night.

It's basically the same insulin. I don't really understand why it reduces nocturnal hypos. It has the same pharmacokinetics, but just operates at about a third of the dose. I need to read up on it!

I'm not sure either, but this is what several articles have stated not sure if it's just for marketing or whether it's actually true. If it doesn't work I can always go back on Levemir.

I've been on toujeo 5 days and my levels are much more stable, I was having nocturnal hypos- most I only knew of after waking to high sugars and spending the day feeling like I hadn't slept in weeks! I think they've now stopped too as I feel more awake during the day, it's early days but I'm pretty sure it's working. Previously I was on split dose of levemir, 8 units in morning and 10 before bed. Now I just have 1 shot of toujeo before bed, started on 18 unit dose.

Can't speak about it personally, but a friend of mine has been using it for several months and has been happy. Prior to that he was on a pump and he told me he has no plans to go back.

I'm on Levemir myself, but haven't been a diabetic long enough to know how well it works for me (but so far it's been perfect)

I was having severe nocturnal hypos for quite a while, went to see various specialists, doctors and consultants, nothing worked, until my specialist diabetic consultant put me on a new insulin degludec, it's worked wonders, still have occasional lows of course, but nothing like what I was experiencing and putting my poor son and boyfriend through in the early hours of the morning! It's not readily prescribed because of the cost but it's specifically designed to stop nocturnal hypos.

I have just been prescribed it and will be on it next week. let me know how you are doing

Hey. Ive been on toujeo since last september. Changed from levemir. My sugars are much more stable and it covers me for the whole 24 hours. Fewer lows and highs!

Im on Toujeo also. No issues, keeps me really steady throughout the day. I take a split dose 12 hours apart.

No issues with hypos while sleeping. Although i also always eat a light snack before bed for a small spike.

With Toujeo, there should be no reason to split the dose. At least this is what I was told by my doctor.

I was put on to Degludec in early December, moving off Levemir. Supposedly for better control as I'd been running too high for too long (Hba1c usually mid to high 8's). To be honest, can't say it's helping me that much at the moment, although it's still early days. I get mostly peaks and troughs throughout the day, a lot of highs and several hypos. It's a very fine line between getting the background right and sorting ratios too. It's taking a lot longer than I was hoping for! It's difficult to know what's the right insulin to take, as everyone reacts differently and lifestyles are all different.

I was told the same thing as it works beyond 24hrs so need for a split
just started on it this morning 20 units. plus haveing double strengh humalog in black syringes. This is hopefully also going to improve my injecton sites. This also means one less injection as just single dose of Toujeo needed. Its supposed to last up to 36hrs so will overlap slightly. Should eventually even itself out

I am also on Levemir now and considering a move. How many units of Levemir did you take while on Levemir and how many do you take now on Toujeo?

I took 21 units of levemir but now i take 18 units of toujeo. It was a starter dose but it hasnt needed changed. If you do decide on the change your sugars will swing a bit. Mine did for about a week as it takes toujeo 5 days to fully take effect but definitely worth the change! My bg in the mornings were high and it was clear levemir was just running out. I havent had that on toujeo.

Levemir is good if you want to customize your basal to be stronger during certain parts of the day, but that requires the assumption that you're willing to/want to take 2 levemir shots each day.

Ill bring it up with my endo on my first appointment. Not very satisfyed with my GP. Thank you for the info.
