Trading Cheetos for kale chips

Our bunny likes kale tho I can't say I relish the thought... ok chopping it up v fine and adding it to soups etc.

Me loves kale chips. Toss kale in mix of cider vinegar, olive oil and salt and dehydrate. I a gradually converting the world! Delish. Haven't found anyone who doesn't like.

Thats one thing I have yet to try, could you please tell me how to make these kale chips?
Thank you in advance.

Take one large container. Add generous glug of olive oil. Add splash of cider vinegar. Salt to taste. Tear open bag of prepared kale from supermarket (or prepare your own if time permits). Add a handful to oil mixture. Massage into mix with hands. Gradually add more and continue to massage. Then get your dehydrator and lay it out on lined trays. Takes 5 to 12 hours. Enjoy.

Thank you, i guess a oven will do on a low setting? I havent got a dehydrator. I will have to try this, need to see for myself how it works/tastes.

Could be ok. Will need to be a really low temp as you want to dry rather than cook. You maybe need to leave the oven door ajar to let air circulate?
The dehydrator is fab. Makes wonderful flax crackers. So much less faffing than the oven method. Also the celeriac chips are wonderful. I dry fruit as well and a small piece is really lovely. Keeps me low carb but still get to eat all sorts of stuff.
I swear I have no biz interest in machine maker! I bought mine via amazon for 30 somethingpounds.

Realise that a health food shop was handing out free taste samples of dehydrated broccoli tossed in parmesan cheese which was delish too. Probably was tossed in olive oil to make the cheese stick.
Have a pile of tuscan kale, curly kale and broccoli is just coming on in my garden and I have a dehydrator so I am going to try this. Think I would blanch the broccoli first though.

I don't eat fruit but I do prepare spaghetti squash by poaching it in a lime juice, xylitol and water bath until tender then put it in the dehydrator. It tastes and looks a little like dried mango. Ah, the memories! I have put the dried squash into a "travel mix" with shredded coconut, pumpkin and sunflower seeds and some almonds or pecans or walnuts etc. Absolutely decadent.
Thanks for the heads up Carbdodger!

mmmmm - may have to get myself one of these dehydrator thingys -

I don't have a dehydrator yet, but so wanted to try kale chips.

They turned out a treat using the oven method, but have to be careful not to burn the edges as they taste bitter.

Husband and I were sitting down to watch a movie, next doors came round wanting to borrow some tools, he didn't say anything, few mins later his wife phoned '"Judy, for goodness sake are you and Andy eating potpourri?" LOL That was yesterday, guess who is snacking on kale chips today then? Correct, next doors are munching through their own potpourri.

Well worth a try I'd say.

great that it got you thinking. I don't eat much fruit. Berries and rhubarb mainly but do enjoy a piece of dried apple or banana as a sweetie now and again.

Happy hydrating all.

Heavenly!!!! :D

The dehydrator is whirring away but the oven dried kale is done. Who would have thought that kale could be so good? I followed Carbdodger's instructions but added in (because I always have to tinker with recipes) some spices from the Australian bush and finely grated parmesan cheese.

I was eyeing up the kale yesterday as it seems to have overtaken all the greens around it and was planning to feed some to the chickens we are getting tomorrow. I also found that so far one tray of the kale was ready to take out after 2 hours. The oven dried batch was done in just over 40 mins.

Suggest that you publish this method in the recipe section Carbdodger as many might not see it in this section.
