Where are you going and for how long? It makes a big difference.

Just paid 2000 pounds for my 89 year old T2 dad (with multiple other health conditions and 15 pills a day) to visit me in NZ for 3 months. . (But there's no way we could afford for him to fly via the US, even if he was only there for 2 hours.)

Many companies won't cover you at all if you're too old or if you have the wrong health conditions.

I recently bought an annual policy for myself and hubby from Staysure for £123. I have type 2 and a few other health conditions, hubby is fit and well. Obviously would be less for one person. They were the best I found. You can get a quote on line here:

(Just to be clear this is a personal recommendation, I gain nothing from recommending them)

I have been using Puffin Insurance for the last 3 times I traveled to Turkey. Type 1 with stage 4CKD and sight problems. Prices were pretty good. Phoned them to make sure my type 1 was covered IF anything untoward happens

We tend to use either Staysure or Insureandgo - this year we’ve used both as it was more cost effective to use Staysure for our holiday to Jersey and Insureandgo for our cruise next week.
