Hello, I'm new to all of this so could do with your help. :) My current travel insurance with my bank won't cover existing medical illnesses so I need to find another avenue of insurance.

Any help and guidance would be much appreciated. Who do you use? Who is fairly priced? Any ideas roughly how much it'll cost? I'm off to Portugal at the end of this month for 10 days and I'm starting to panic! It's my own fault for not being organised but its usually sorted through my bank so in the past haven't even thought about it. X

Hi Lottie,

I've managed to find lots of companies offering travel insurance despite my diabetes. I don't search anywhere special... just the usual comparison websites: confused.com, meerkat, moneysupermarket.

There are specialist ones too, but I'm not sure they'll be any cheaper... may offer more cover specific to diabetes though.

I generally buy my insurance from an insurance company rather than a bank or supermarket. ;)

We just use a comparison site. My latest ins is with southdownsinsurance.co.uk and only cost about £15 for week in Lanzarote. I declared all my meds and T1 diabetes. Shop around and there are some good deals available.

Cheers for the help, i'll have a look on the comparison websites tonight :D I just thought they might bend us over a barrel and be extortionate... Shows I should have more faith!! Haha x

I've used various companies and although a little more expensive than my wife ( non-diabetic ), not much more.
