Hi guys, got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in April and I'm heading on my honeymoon in September, going on a cruise, having a bit of trouble finding decent travel insurance, can anyone point me in the direction of any decent companies? (I'm 30 and fit and healthy otherwise)

Have you tried some of the price comparison websites?

Yeah, seems when filling in my details a question they all ask is have you been in hospital in last 6 months which obviously i have been as was only diagnosed in April, this seems to flag up on all there automated systems and I run into bother, looks like I'll maybe have to do it the old fashioned way and actually talk to someone on the phone, or worse still, face to face .....

There are some specialist insurance company's that deal with people who have life-long conditions like diabetes, I don't know how competitive they are but they may be worth a try if your struggling to find cover.

Try Allsafe 0843 459 1695, I found them very helpful and not too expensive but I haven't been in hospital in four years,

Hi Jimmy
congrats on the upcoming nuptuals and honeymoon

I use policy expert online www.policyexpert.co.uk
they have a phone number too 0845 000 1212

they have not loaded my annual european policy more than an extra £8-10 on top of a standard travel policy for the last few years.
the questionaire filled in online is comprehensive and when finished it gives you a choice of different insurers and their rates.

I use this one:

https://www.allcleartravel.co.uk

I found them through the Diabetes UK website and I've used them a number of times over the years, both for short trips and longer trips. You can choose your level of cover and you get a discount for buying online. They cover pre-existing medical conditions.

Have a great honeymoon!

Not all travel insurance covers cruises as cost of flying you from the ship to the nearest hospital is expensive.

We have been on a few cruises and used Sainsburys travel insurance, they paid out no problem for a Norwegian Cruise when our 18 month old was in hospital treated for meningitis day before we should have travelled.
