Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have a son aged 11 with type 1 diabetes.
We are traveling to Namibia in August and I was wondering if anyone had advice about where to get travel insurance in case Owen falls ill during the trip. I have been advised that it would be prudent to travel to South Africa if we needed medical treatment for him as facilities in Namibia are a little primative.
Thank you
Meghan

Hi Meghan and welcome to the forum.

Not surprisingly travel insurance for diabetics is a regularly discussed topic. Here is a link to a discussion on it that you might find useful.

I imagine that you will be looking for a family policy to cover all of you and, although just about every insurance company will happily quote you, you will find that very few will cover pre-existing medical conditions. But of course they don't tell you this up front - they just take your money and wait until you find out for yourself when (or if) you read the small print in the policy. That means that you would have full cover for all the usual things like cancellation, lost baggage, medical emergencies, etc, but NOT if the cancellation or medical emergency was due to a medical condition that existed before you took out the policy. So whoever you insure with, when you get a quote it's essential that you get them to confirm that their policy covers pre-existing medical conditions within the price they have quoted you.

One that I have found to be particularly good is the insurer recommended by this website.

Their insurance is specifically for pre-existing conditions such as diabetes and I found it to be very reasonably priced compared to equivalent cover elsewhere.
