Hi, I am diabetic on an insulin pump. I just returned home at the first of the year from a trip to Japan. I had several concerns prior to going, but everything went well! Now I have an oppourtunity to go to Russia! But I can't find out anything about diabetic care, supplies etc in Russia. I am hoping someone out there has some input for me.

I can see by viewing your post that even in the UK it is very differant how thing are managed, than here in the states. Very interesting.

Thanks for the input and response!

Hi.
We don't have much call for this sort of thing here but here goes......

In Russia, the care of diabetes is managed through local hospitals. Doctors are hindered by inadequate supplies and lack of materials in order to treat the problem. Strip provision is low, and in many cases blood testing two or three times a week is the norm.

Strips are for sale in Moscow and other large cities, but the cost is disproportionate to salaries.

I would think maybe contact the Russian Embassy in the states and ask for their advice could be one avenue. You could also try Diabetes UK as they can sometimes be helpful with Travel abroad. Do you not have something similar in the States ?

I would imagine you need to carry plenty of your own supplies and make sure you have a translation for all your Meds together with the appropriate letters etc to get you through Custom's and Airport Security without being stopped for carrying something you shouldn't.

Just a few pointers ....there may be some members who have been there and can help you more. At least I hope so. :)
