Dear All,

I will be planning a round trip to Australia for at least a month and I know the Australian authorities are pretty stringent on what you are taking into the country and I am making arrangements to get an official letter from my Diabetic nurse. The Australian local time, from GMT is approx 9 to11 hours in front and in terms of my medication, I must make accurate time calculations to administer my medication during on the plane journey.

What are your suggestions on this? :?:

Yes, Australia is very strict about food being brought into the country. Declare anything and everything you are carrying. Sweets are also classed as 'food'. If you are travelling around Australia state to state you will also find that you cannot carry fresh fruit and vegetables across borders but processed foods are OK.

You will find that the foods available here are fresh and very varied and as I have been travelling for 3 months around this country in a caravan I have to carefully read the state border requirements. If you need to eat low carb stuff it is easy to do this by checking the menus and chosing accordingly. I have managed to maintain my weight loss of the last 12 months despite being a low carber. If you are not there are plenty of options including pastas, chips and wholegrain breads.

Do enjoy our beautiful vast country and if you need to know anything else I am happy if you pm me.

Shifting timezones can play havoc with control, even the best-laid plans are difficult to integrate with your body clock. It will depend on the type of therapy you're on, which way you're going etc. The only advice I can offer is test regularly. Your DSN may be able to guide you with specifics for your regime.

Every time I've been to Australia I always walked through the "Red" channel and declared my needles, a bit tongue-in-cheek perhaps as my motivation is purely to avoid queueing with 500 other munters in the "Green" channel. Saves a good hour sometimes. BUT the customs officer always thanks me for being so conscientious or words to that effect!

Have fun, I'm very envious!

Dear All,

Thanks ever so much everyone! Much appreciate all the helpful advice you folks have given me.
