Hi
I was wondering if any of you have travelled with animas vibe I see there is a thread based on airport security but I was looking for information more on time differences and what to watch for , this will be my first time away with my pump which I will have had for 8 months by the time I fly and levels are pretty settled we are flying to ottawa which has a 5 hour time difference and will be an average temperature of around -20 I presume I alter the time on the pump once I get there ? And monitor every couple of hours ? Will the temperature make a lot of difference to the novo rapid ?

Anyone have any experience of these issues

I'll 'bump' your post up the forum in the hope that you might get some replies.

I'm on the vibe and have flown to Russia which is 3.5 hours difference. I changed my basal when we landed and also you may find you need an extra bolus during flight as flying can make sugars run higher. The changing basal worked fine with a tiny correction tweak and I did the same thing flying home.

With regards to the cold you do need to be careful. Russia was very cold but we were only outside when we were walking between places so not too long. I wear the pump on my bra wire so it's kept pretty warm and of course we had special coats and layers on. Make sure everything including pump tubing is inside your layers and you should be fine. The only thing that might cause problems would be if you are outside for extended periods etc. Do make sure you are careful where you store your pump supplies too as if they get cold they are affected. Hope that helps :)

Shifting injected basal across major time zone changes is tricky. With a pump being more fine grained on basal delivery it could be trickier still. How will you handle jet lag? Going west I usually stay up as late as I can the first night and hope the tiredness resets my biological clock. I would then shift the pump clock to match the time I go to sleep on the first night. And maybe run a reduced temp basal while travelling and staying up late, as that's a constant stress and energy drain that often leads to hypos, for me.

The plan is once there to be going to bed early ie 7/8 pm and getting up early 6am we are going to do a lot of outdoor type stuff but I do also keep my pump on my bra wire so hopefully this will help I guess the best option available really is to take loads of strips and just test test and test may also write the info down so I have it to hand next time and can adjust the Basals accordingly we go roughly every 2 years but thus iwill be the first time with the pump there is a 5 hour time difference and temperature is normally between -15 and -20 c
