Hi I'm a long time traveller with insulin and would recommend some sort of doctor's letter to list your meds, though you probably won't need it. As regards the pens, they'll need to be in hand luggage and refrigerated. Personally I put mine in a very small squishy cool bag for the flight and then aim to find fridges combined with the cool bag while I travel. You might find reusuable pens with cartridges easier as they will be less bulky? Customs security like you to have liquids in a transparent bag, so you probably want to put the insulin filled pens in one so you can show them.hi guys im a newbie to the site after starting insulin last week
anyway ill need about 7 weeks prefilled insulin pens to take to South East Asia
if anyone can shed some light on process to go through customs and carry on board plane
it would be most appreciated![]()
never thought to contact the airline , which ill defo do now guess ill have a look a Vietnam etc on thatI used to work in China and had a friend working there with T1 and remember him talking a lot about problems - but this was not with pre-filled pens. Lack of access to refrigeration always stuck in my mind - hotel rooms where the frig went off when you left your room for the day, for example. The organisation I worked for there used to provide us with vaccum flasks for carrying all sorts of medication around for 24-hours-plus travel across country. I'd suggest print-outs and paperwork to cover your condition and the medication (you don't want to be trying to show details on a phone somewhere your reception's patchy, but have it digital as well). Also, have you contacted the embassy and airline(s) for their advice?
