Travelling With Tablets

Morning everyone :)

Despite the beautiful weather here in the UK we are heading off to hotter climes in just over a week. I have an appointment with the PN on Tuesday so if I need anything I can get it then.

So question is ... I'm currently on gliclazide, amitriptyline and omeprazole. Do I need anything from PN to carry with me ie a prescription? I have the repeat page in my handbag pharmacy will that suffice?

It's been at least 10 years since I left the country and I was fighting fit then!

Keep the tablets in their original packages, declare them when checking in, and possibly carry a letter, in english and the language of whatever county you go to, stating what the tablets are for and what conditions you have. This will help and in most western counties will suffice but not always in some of the remoter areas where you may have a prolonged discussion at check in.

Always take a little more than you need for your stay, you may get delayed, and take the repeat prescription scrip so that if you need to get some locally or need medical treatment your medication and dose rate can be easily seen.

Always when traveling pack medication in hand luggage, hold luggage can get lost.

I've been fortunate to have traveled overseas at least twice a year for the last 20 years, quite a lot for work. In all that time I've had no problems with anybody. Even the Freestyle Libre sensor setting off the handheld scanner hasn't phased anybody.
Repeat prescription always handy, especially when you leave all your meds on the dining room table.

Callie - It could be useful to know where you're travelling to, as requirement differ vastly from EU countries to some in the Middle East. Just an indication would be good.

If you are travelling to the UK, and you have one, please take your EHIC card with you. If you don't have one you can apply here: https://www.gov.uk/european-health-insurance-card Please do not use any "unofficial" sites, as some try to charge you for the service, which is free.

When I recently had to renew my EHIC card, it arrrived very quickly, so if you don't have one, you might be lucky. The card is for individuals, so if you have companions, they would need their own.

It lasts 5 years, so is worthwhile having anyway.

Just Gran Canaria this time and already have my EHIC sorted :)

I think I'll just ask the PN for a prescription to cover me :)

Just remeber to keep the fluids up and test plenty as the heat can make the bloods a bit more erratic than usual, some find.

I've travelled a few times and not had any problems. I have my medicines in their boxes so they have the pharmacist's sticker on showing they were prescribed to me. I put those in a ziplock bag with my repeat form and not had any problem going through customs. I'd also suggest making a copy of your repeat and keeping that seperately, just in case you lose anything and need to get an emergency prescription where you land.
