I have type2 diabetes but was being treated for type1 for 7 out of the last 8yrs I was put on insulin no oral medication can't seem to get a straight answer from the doctors . has this happened to anyone else

@Derby123 , I have no experience of this but can you explain a bit more about your situation.

Were you told you were type 1? were told you were type 2 now and they made a mistake? Did you have DKA at diagnosis? Were you tested for type 1 antibodies GAD or insulin levels c-peptide?

Some people with type 2 are considered by HCPs to need insulin straight away, is that your concern?

I was told that I had type1 I never questioned it until last year that's when I was put on metformin I have only recently started looking into diabetes I just went by what the doctors told me this is why I've joined this site thanks for ur reply

This is why iam on here iam on insulin twice daily and 3 metformin a day one doctor says I can reverse it another says iam insulin dependent don't know who to believe

Call your GP. Surely your GP notes will be up to date? Ask your GP. After all it does matter, to GPs when administering the right meds for you.

Remember metformin is often given to type1s to reduce the need for excessive insulin units.
Just because prescribed metformin does make someone type2.

I was on metformin for pcos before diagnosed with diabetes. Its used for some cancer patients too.
