Tresiba diarrhoea & stomach cramps

The hospital consultant has changed my Lantus insulin to Tresiba for better control. However after 5 weeks of taking this I’ve had diarrhoea & stomach cramps for 3 weeks now. I have no other symptoms & have been to the GP (albeit it was a specialist GP) who said they’ve seen a lot of people with diarrhoea & no sickness & to leave it another 2 weeks. I did express concern that this would be 5 weeks with this condition & he said that’s ok. It’s only today that I’ve just made the connection with this & a change of meds. I’ve googled side effects & this is one of them. I was concerned that it has taken 5 weeks for these to appear but I also read someone’s experience where it did take a few weeks for them to appear & then they went back to Lantus & were ok the next day. I’m going to ring the diabetic nurse today but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this ?

I switched from Lantus to Tresiba and had no such issues. Been using it for over 6 months. Could it be coincidental? Or maybe Tresiba doesn't sit well with your body.

Those side effects are probably listed for most insulins.

I also switched from Lantus to Tresiba, maybe about 9 months ago and also have had no such issues.

I switched years ago and had none of these symptoms. Possibly coincidental? Have a word with your DSN about your concerns. OR give it another few days maybe?

Been on Tresiba since I was diagnosed over 3 years ago and never experience anything like this

The last part about a user switching back and being fine the very next day is a bit odd in itself as Tresiba can last 36 hours in the body hence why any dose adjustments take at least 3 days to notice any difference so that doesn't sit right as they still would've had Tresiba present in their system
xx

Update....Thanks everyone. I’ve spoken to diabetic nurse & although rare, my symptoms are listed on the drugs enclosed leaflet, so I’m going back to Lantus until my hospital appointment at end of January & if there’s no change I know it’s not the Tresiba. Fingers crossed

Hi did your stomach ache go away? I’m having similar issues, doctors doing lots of blood tests ect can’t figure out what I have but had poorly stomach for about 3 week now. Started tresiba 1 month ago no other changes (other than diabetes diagnosis)

Hi, no it hasn’t. I’ve had FIT test for cancer, Elastase test for pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, calprotectin test, ferritin test, all negative & awaiting a coeliac test results. Begining to think it may be IBS. Have a appointment with gastric consultant at the hospital on Xmas day next year ! Slightly better now but get woken up about 3am with pains & Wind settler tablets seem to work & I can go back to sleep again. Good luck with the investigations

Hi, yes you too! I was thinking I might be having an Ibs flare up too, I haven’t ever been diagnosed but had stomach ache for 3 months a few years ago, never did find out why and it just went away by itself. So we shall see!
