Hi guys,

Newbie to this site (hello) but been diagnosed type 1 for around 7 years.

As if diabetes was not enough, I have just been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia I know that diabetes can affect the nerves, and my sugars have not been ideal past few years, with my last hba1c at 7.7 %.

I have seen a few links in the scientific literature of some (not many) linked to each other, but thought I would the ask the community here.

So depressed with it all right now and would be grateful if any advice anyone can give! Cheers guys

MichM, we have a couple of members who spring to mind who have endured trigeminal neuralgia. It's a horrible condition and can be tricky to treat, but hopefully @Mel dCP , who is T1 and managed to wrangle it, and @lucylocket61 , who is T2, but to my shame I can't recall how she's doing with it now, will have some wisdom for you.

I hope you can shift it soon.

Thank you so much both. I did see Mel dCP post and have to say brought a smile to face

I will look at the above links. Am determined not to let this get the better of me

I have trigeminal neuralgia and am Type 2. I find keeping my sugars down is vital, to keep the inflamation at bay. Also i avoid hot or cold food and drinks, room temperature is OK, and i wrap a scarf around my face if it is cold outside or windy. Best wishes.

Hi @lucylocket61 thank you for replying to post. Did you have the TN before or after Diabetic diagnosis. I too find that hot / cold drinks trigger it, as does windy days (so a lot of those here in the UK )

Do you think your TN flares with higher sugars?

I have been type 2 for 7 years, and the TN started about a year ago. I am also in the UK. Higher sugars (I had to go on steroids for a few weeks recently) certainly made it worse.

I can’t really add to wheat I wrote on the other thread but I’m certain that normal blood glucose is key to beating it. Mine rarely bothers me now.
