Hi all I’m wondering if you can share some tips and advice .

I’ve been on trulicity for 2 weeks . I’m on 0.75mg and 500mg metformin 2 times a day . I’m in the process of moving house and leaving my first home after 21 years . We move in the summer with our children . I have a lot going on emotionally and recently was told about my levels going up from hbac1 54 to 77. My diet hasn’t been great and I’ve gained 2 stones after being on antidepressants for 16 months .

I’ve stopped my antidepressants since jan . Anyway the reason for this post is my sugars r still very high I’ve had a reading of 13.5 today and morning blood yesterday was 11.4 . I’m freaking out as I’m on 2 lots of medications for my sugars . I spoke to the pharmacist and he told me not to worry and give the medicine time to work .

My question is when will it start to work ? I know diet plays a big part but with all the moving stress and emotions I can’t focus at all on my eating habits . It doesn’t help I’m an emotional eater . I’m so worried yet digging myself my own grave at the same time .

Please help

You are having to manage a lot, and I can see that such difficult times are sapping your desire to look after yourself. Can you emotionally eat delicious things that are low-carb? That will help you so much. Well done for all you have achieved so far. Your pharmacist sounds lovely. We are all here for you.

With all thats going on, a simple injection is probably helpful. You will be starting on a low dose, and the doc will probably raise it gradually. The Metformin is not very good at reducing glucose levels - it is there mainly to protect your heart and blood plumbing. It may make the side effects of the other drug worse, and it may be necessary to hold back on it if you start getting gastric events. It is not an essential drug, but helpful if you tolerate it.

Drugs like Trulicity are mainly weight loss drugs, and they do this in two ways. firstly they restrict the amount you want to eat by pretending you are full. secondly overeating is punished by nausea and other nasty gastric distress. So it is like a weight loss diet with a strict taskmaster built in. Again, some like the simplicity of this approach since it is guilt free, and the med gets the blame.

However, if you are rushing around doing stuff, gastric distress is not what you want or need. So be warned, the little room becomes an important stopping point for some on this drug.
