I am recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I have normal levels BMI , cholesterol and blood pressure. I have no reason to lose weight and I find all the "diets" encourage you to lose weight which I cannot afford to do!! Can you help me I am at present following carb control system to lower glucose levels my current level HbA1c 56.

HI. Can I ask how old you are? As you are normal weight it is possible you are a late onset T1 (LADA) and not T2. LADAs often lose weight or are low'ish weight at diagnosis due to lack of insulin production resulting in glucose from carbs not being processed fully. What meds if any are you on? There are two tests the GP can do i.e. GAD for anti-bodies and c-peptide to test for insulin levels. Some GPs don't recognise LADA. Let us know your age and meds.

You can maintain your weight on a low carb diet, I've done this (unintentionally!!) for the last 4-5 months - basically eat enough fat and protein to keep your weight steady at however many carbs you have decided to aim for a day., Have a look at the "Keto Calculator" at http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ which will help you work out a suitable ratio of carbs, fat, & protein for your size and lifestyle.

Many thanks for your advice. I am 71 years of age and not on any medication.
