I am EXTREMELY weight loss resistant, although I have lost about 45 pounds over a couple of years of reduced carbs.
My exercise class members have got together to do a bit of weight loss support for each other and our trainer is weighing us weekly at the gym.
I have been REALLY GOOD for 3 weeks. I lost a kilo in each of the first 2 weeks and then no more. One member has lost 6 kilos in the same time. Then I read the thread on Metformin for weight loss. Since I am at liberty to change my dose, if I want to, I have gone to 2 x 500 twice a day and almost zero carbs. I did once get some weight off with an Atkins "fat fast". So keep fingers crossed folks.
If nothing else, bg meter average is now 5.1 and dropping.
I don't think Metformin makes much difference really. To the numbers I mean. I've been in the 4s for several days, but I don't let myself go above 6 anyway

Perhaps Metformin isn't a very effecive medicine and that's why it's such a safe one?

Hi DG
I am definitely changing shape. My belt is now 4 holes further up than it was and not tight.

This is how I am very very gradually getting my depoprovera fat off.

1. Upped my exercise to 11 hours a week. Added wii fitness games and walking someone else's dog to usual home exercise tapes.
2. Stick to low carb diet. No snacks.
3. Stick to three meals a day eaten at the table with no tv, reading the paper etc.
4. Cut to one glass of wine a night.
5. Hot bath and face mask at 9pm and then go to bed for lots of sleep when possible.
6. Lidls vanilla almond ice lollies and chilli heatwave doritos with sour cream totally stopped. I was addicted. I could stop at one but that one was just too much for my middle aged metabolism. I have also stopped milk in my tea. I did drink 10 pints of tea a day!
7. I bought Harry Preuss's book Fat Loss Pharmacy and have experimented with supplements.
So far, green tea extract has been the most successful in my n=1 non randomised controlled study of me. I have several other products to try and when I have finished my experiments I will let you all know what I think.

Depo Provera.......not a clue what that was, so I looked it up. Found this link, so if like me you have no idea what it is read on....!
http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/bcdepo.htm

An extract:
70% of women using Depo Provera gain weight. Almost half of the women using Depo Provera gain more than 5 pounds after one year of use. Many women gain more than 10 pounds.

I put on 2 and a half stone! That is 20% of my body weight.

It was a good job I was 8st 6 when I started it. I did it because when Steven was diagnosed with type one I knew I couldn't suffer unbearable period pains as well as look after him properly.

If I ever get down to my previous level I will have achieved a weight loss of bariatric surgery proportions. I suspect I don't want to be as low because the depo had one good side effect, I finally started to gain muscle, after 18 years weight training. This is because progesterone is a bit androgenic. It is too bad that acne and hair thinning are also the main side effects I have had!

You have to laugh.

I stayed the same AGAIN this week, so I've decided to go back onto my minimal Metformin. There's no need for the extra. It didn't make much difference to myBG either. I'm consistently in the 4s and low 5s. Meter average is 5.2. I've also tested for ketones, but I don't seem to know how to make them. I'll have to up the exercise. I can't change a diet that's so good for BG
( And I never eat icecream). I'm baby minding tomorrow and that will entail about 4 miles of walking pushing a buggy. I will have a chicken salad in Mac Donald's, whilst Amelie has a fish finger Happy meal. this is a treat for her too. and we'll share a fruit pouch.
I ate a biscuit last week.Yes ONE
It must be so easy to lose weight if you eat all that other stuff. I've pretty much nothing to give up.
Still I stayed the same( 3 weeks now) and didn't gain. Several group members had to pay the 50p fine for gaining. It was voted in as an incentive. There is another t2 in the group
she is told by her doctor every 6 months that everything is "perfect". and paid 50p this week.

I'm GOING to WRITE that book.
