Trying to make sense of things.

A little back story...
At the end of September I ended up at hospital with high blood sugar as well as high keytones, glucose and protein in my urine. I was sent home at the end of the day having been placed on Novomix 30 twice a day with a suspected case of T1, although further tests would be required to confirm the type. Within a couple of days my blood sugar was down within in range and my doses of insulin were reduced right down. I am sure insulin played a big part in this but I also started daily walking and completely rehashed my diet. After almost 4 weeks of insulin I have been taken off of it and currently on one Metformin tablet a day and my bloody sugar readings are remaining in range. Those further blood tests ended up inconclusive and at present am waiting on the results of an abdominal CT scan.

So as I am waiting for confirmation of what type I am, I am trying to make sense of what is going on with my body. Was the insulin making part of my pancreas on the way out so to speak and the use of Novomix gave it the rest needed and the boost to make it work as I believe is common in Type 1s during the honeymoon phase or is it a case of insulin resiliance and that intial boost of extra Insulin counter acted that resiliance which is why the Metformin is working for me currently. Or maybe it is a combination of boast.

I really am becoming confused trying to work things out and maybe it is going to be a case of just waiting to see how things play out, keeping an eye on my readings for anything out of the usual but I know that not knowing is not helping matters. Has anyone else been through similar?

Yes, it is a bit strange but I've seen some other posts witha simil ar story. At least your blood suagr is now pretty good. I can only suggest you carry on with the Metformin and a low-carb diet and await any test results. You may be lucky and be able to stay on tablets for a long time but it's possible the need for insulin will eventually return. In the diabetes lottery nothing can be certain.

I'm thinking aloud, so please excuse any daft suggestions. So, no longer taking insulin? That must be because your pancreas is now doing it's job (if it hadn't been before hand). Hopefully a c-peptide test will show what your pancreas is up to.
One Metformin a day? Assuming it's the 500mg, that's not bad at all. Whatever you're presently doing, you must be doing something right.
It must be very difficult when first diagnosed, especially when they're still trying to give a complete diagnosis. Hopefully all will be revealed very soon. All the best.

Thanks both for your replies.
Well the CT scan didn't show anything bad which is a relief but it does mean I am still in limbo as to what type I am. But I have spoken to the DNS about a c-peptide who is going to get in touch with the specialist to see if she will okay me to have one.

@graj0 yes the Metformin is 500mg and sounds like you are thinking along the lines I am with the pancreas having benefited from the few weeks of additional insulin and I am now in the "honeymoon phase", although the DNS can't confirm this in case it isn't, which whilst frustrating is understandable.
