Turn off xDrip lock screen widget?

I'm trying to beat anxiety right now. I've learned that, for many of us, information overload is part of the problem. So I've turned off all notifications on my phone except for people actually calling me. I've also ditched any apps that are unnecessary.

I love using my Blucon Nightrider with xDrip+, but I don't need to see the number every time I flick on my phone screen. If I want to check my glucose level, I can go into the app, but since going keto, I find there's often nothing to worry about.

Does anyone know if I can hide the notification that appears on my lock screen? I can't seem to find an option in the xDrip+ settings to do so. I still want it to alert me if I'm going high or low, so I don't want to block notifications via the Android settings.

Hi, @Colin of Kent , my version of xDrip+ is about 7 months old now, but, assuming there hasn't been any menu changes, the path is Settings/Less common settings/Other misc options, then toggle off the option "Run Collector in foreground".

That'll switch off the lock screen notification, but you'll see that the explanatory text mentions it also prevents android killing the service, which I vaguely recall was an issue with some phones, something to do with battery saving maybe, so whether it will have adverse consequences for your particular phone I don't know. There's a battery optimization option there too which might be worth experimenting with if that happens.

Here's the screen to look for:

As an alternative to Scott's suggestion, if you're running a version of android above 8.0 (Oreo) you should be able to achieve this with notification channels without killing the foreground service.

To remove the graph and information from the notification:
  1. Open xDrip+ settings and go to 'xDrip+ Display Settings'.
  2. Untick the 'Public Notifications' option.
  3. Slide down the notification drawer and half-swipe the xDrip+ notification to the right to expose the cog. Tap the 'i' at the top right of the notification.
  4. Tap Notifications, 'Uncategorised' should be highlighted - tap the word.
  5. Tap 'Advanced' to drop down the menu.
  6. Tap 'On lock screen' and change the setting to 'Hide sensitive content'.

If you have the number icon enabled:
  1. Open xDrip+ settings and go to 'xDrip+ Display Settings'.
  2. Tap 'Number Icon in Notification Area'.
  3. Toggle off 'Show Small Number Icon' and 'Use Large Number Icon'.

Edit: Changing these settings you should effectively end up with something like this:

Awesome, thank you, @Scott-C - that did the trick. Although, as you say, it may cause issues down the line - we'll see.

Thanks for your suggestion, @db89 - alas, my phone is rather old and only has Android version 6.0...
