That likn is paywalled: i foound another one, where there's written an interesting thing.

Researchers from the Karolinska Institute studied levels of soft drink consumption in amore than 2,800 Swedish adults and compared them with rates of diabetes.

They found that those who drank two of the drinks per day had a 2.4 times higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes than those who didn’t drink any.

Soft drinks were also found to increase the risk of a less common condition called Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (Lada), which shares characteristics of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes, which requires constant insulin injections, is an autoimmune disease that wipes out insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

Lead scientist Dr Josefin Edwall Lofvenborg told PA: “In this study we were surprised by the increased risk in developing autoimmune diabetes by drinking soft drinks.
It's possible that the result obtained are showing some correlation but drinking soft drink is not the culprit and it's only a proxy for another cause, or there's an error in the statistics, because seems stange that artificaial sweeteners could trigger an autoimmune disease.

This is written as a result of a new study ..... merely confirming that even if the drinks are diet ones like Coke and Pepsi, they still will raise blood sugar significantly.

There's a member here who drinks Pepsi Maxi on a regular basis.

Load of bull, I've never drunk junk and still got diabetes.

Everyone is different. Neither did I consume fizzy drinks and eat rubbish food. I'm slim and I have diabetes. I asked the consultant many years ago why and he replied it could have been caused by a virus. These fizzy drinks are junk and I'm certainly not surprised by the confirmed finding.

Completely contradicts the "myth" that too much sugar causes diabetes and that it will only develop if the sugar causes you to become overweight. Because of that "myth" I continued to eat excess sugar over the years, not worrying because I was a size 8, only to have problems with my blood sugar levels now.

Well just have a couple of slices of my chocolate cake and to hell with those that don't have diabetes!

I take it all with a "pinch of salt." Except the cake. I would need to bolus for that!

Just remember that association is not the same as causation.

yes just what I thought... we´ll have to wait and see...

what about the gas in the fizzy-drinks is it okay... I drink a lot of water just with gas.. could it be the oxidation from the gas instead...

Do some people really get a BG rise after diet pop? That's bizarre! OHs main fluid is diet coke lol, while its not really healthy it doesn't affect his BG

This seems like causation to me too

Yes, but that is what antioxidants are for :) ;) :)
yes it was that kind of oxidation I was thinking of...

and thats also why the r-alpha-lipoic-acid which acts as an antioxidant can be benificial for diabetic type 2´s along with good blood sugar control as a slightly hightened blood glucose also causes too much oxcidation over time...
