Just remember that association is not the same as causation.
Itc ould be also that drinking fizzy drinks is a symptom because one is thirsty due the diabetes onset, as NHS is writing. And this makes sense for LADA onset.
One could have some restraints to start drinking eight pints of Guinness a day but drinking three bottles of Coke 0 a days could pass almost unnoticed.

it seems the Svedish excamination is asuming that diabetics already drank the same amount of fizzy drinks before they were diabetic, well I don´t think thats the case... I think most diabetics start to drink fizzy-drinks with artificial sugars after they already have become diabetic as there is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much they can´t eat or drink anymore...

Well all I can say is I drink an inordinate quantity of diet Pepsi/Coke and so far it has not affected my BG levels one iota.

I partake from time to time.. An alternative to beer? (We all know the carby goodness of the stuff.) yarp I could add voddy to the DC? But i value my driving licence too...
On the whole with the BGs. It don't even scratch it!

I never touched the stuff as a kid. It never existed...

However.. I am a little concerned that in the light of this new "study", that my T1 may never abate? & this condition I have is for life if I continue the odd can of the diet stuff..?
Any thoughts on this @asparagusp ??

I'm sure many women switch to diet drinks to try to lose weight/stay slim when they are young. I know I did. I had been drinking diet drinks for about 30 years , (at a rate of 2 litres a day for several of those years) before I became T2. Worried about my weight gain I read a book about Syndrome X (metabolic syndrome) which said that the weight gain was due to insulin resistance which could be caused by consuming diet drinks. I don't think a small amount of these drinks is a problem but I don't think it's a good idea to drink an excess of them, they are made up of water and chemicals after all, so why not just have the water. You get used to it after a while.

okay 2 liters a day thats much...

I think the diabetes epidemic has come also partly because it was widespread propaganda that healthy eating was low fat and high carbs... that was what we could read everywhere in also helth magasines (in Denmark don´t know about UK)... not sugars but lot and lots of carbs.. and fat was dangerous... I think we should blame those idiots that tought all the people that fats are dangerous..

and a lot of women actually try to be healthy and eat after that kind of official misguidance... :-((
