After humulin mix gave me hypos my diabetic nurse specialist is trying me on basal bolus.
Felt all ok but waiting to hear as she put me on 3 units Novorapid and 4 Tresiba at night. However she just said meal times so only inject breakfast lunch and dinner and I’ve been having carbs just before Tresiba dose at 10 pm which test showed 8 mmol and tonight 10 mmol.
I just upped my Tresiba to 5 units tonight as panicked... did I do wrong? I know she said she will explain carbs and insulin units to me but before then, just panicking a little.

Oh - dear - I seem to find myself with anxious type ones with questions about insulin (fairly) late at night.
Firstly - deep calming breaths - panic is not going to help.
Second - I would think that carbs and insulin late on in the day was not the most sensible thing - this is gentle chiding to take on board for the future not tonight. Personally, if thinking of eating late in the day I eat sugar free jelly, cream, yoghurt and frozen berries, as it is both low carb and delicious, but that is entirely by the way.
Third - only one extra unit and you had eaten carbs - that really might be exactly right. Not that I would know, you understand - but it could be. You might have used a little more of the bolus rather than the basal - I think that is the right way round - but think - does it seem the sensible thing to you with what you know?
If you are unsure then you might stay up and check your levels before sleeping, or go to bed and set your alarm to check in the small hours - do what you think is the sensible thing for your best management.
