Hi, I think I might have type 1.5 - my blood sugars are stubbornly high despite a v low carb diet and metformin and gliclizide and I'm not overweight or unfit. My GP agreed to a GAD antibodies test - sent off my blood and then was told that the test is not available on the NHS anymore. What can I do now? Help!

I would be asking what the diagnostic protocols were these days then. Sounds like you need a conversation with your GP.

With or without the test if your HBa1C goes over around 7% then your GP should either be adding a 3rd tablet such as Sitagliptin for a while and then moving you to insulin. He must do something and if you look at NICE Diabetes Pathways it should probably be insulin. For info the latest NICE DEC 2014 Draft Diabetes Guidelines say that T1/LADA should be assumed if you present without being overweight. GAD and c-Peptide are no longer recommended other than by exception.

Thanks both,
Daibell do you have a link to the NICE guidelines? It would be good to show them to my GP and I can't find them
Thanks
