type 1 and factor 5 leiden

recived a letter this morning from amys diabetes doctor saying she has factor 5 leiden,we though she might have it due to her father having it,its genetic on his side of the family,im now going to have to get our other children tested,my concern is how will factor 5 impact on amys diabetes,iv searched the net but cant find any info on diabetics who also have factor 5,amy is 16yrs old and will be looking at me as mum to give her some reasurance,im stuck.
 
Please make sure that this information is shared with your entire extended family. A cousin of mine, diagnosed over 20 years ago, did not think beyond his immediate family when asked by the hospital to do this. As my brother has just died with extensive DVT's (it cannot be ascertained whether he was Factor 5 after his death) this just may have saved his life. This and the fact that I have just been very lucky to have dispersed three serious thrombus after a minor (but very painful) injury to my ankle makes me feel that both my brother and I were/are possibly similarly affected.
 
hi all members of the family have been informed the reason we are getting the children tested is because amys dad was in hospital in 2005 with a dvt it wasnt untill he had another dvt in the other leg in 2010 we were told by a consultant that he had factor 5.since telling family members we have now been told our niece has it and this info helped as she had a misscarrage and they have put it down to this now she thankfully has just had a healthy baby girl she had to take fragmin injection all through her pregnancy,also my husbands daughter has it so we have made sure ever member from my husbands side of the family have been told.we just need to wait now for amys appointment with hematology to see how this will effect her as she is type 1,xxx :wave:
 
If/when it comes to using Warfarin I had no problems as a Type 2 - the only small sacrifice is that one should not use Ibuprofen which, in my case, has been a lifesaver at times.
